(See Fig. 1). 3) Moke sure that the anti-skating contro! knab is at "0" posi- tion. (See Fig, 5) There are cases where the tonearm may sway oF flow slightly at the position of “0” due to the highly sensitive rotational part of the tonearm, bur this side force is trivial and presents no inconvenience, 4) Maxe sure that the ‘‘memo-repeat” knob is located at the "0" position. (See Fig, 1) Dinsert the balance weight onto the rear shaft of the tonearm, (See Fig. 5) GRemove ine stylus cover, if your carwidge has one. GDRelease the arm clamp (See Fig. 6) and litt the tonearm fram the arm rest to free tne tonearm, (See Fig, 7) Note: If the tonearm is urged 10 return to the arm rest when the tonearm is held in a free state as in Fig. 7, rotste the turntable platter clockwise about 10 times. This is necessary becouse in ‘ate cases the automatic mechanism may have engaged the 10 ‘ear gear oF moved out of its normal position during wanspor- tation, G©Tum the entire baiance weight clockwise {indicated by tne arrow ““A") of counterclockwise (indicated by the raw 8") vunmil the tonearm is approximately belanced horizontaly. {See Figs, 7 and 8) Note: During the adjustment of the horizontal balance, be sure that the stylus tip of the cartridge does nat contact the turntable mat ar turntable base, ‘After the ronearm is horizontaliy balanced, temporarily fix the ‘tonearm by the arm clamp, ‘See Fig. 9) Hold tne balance weigh: stationary with fingers as shown 19 Fig, 9 and rotate only ihe stylus oessure ring to bring the: pumerai "0" of the ring into alignment with tne center line on the tonearm tear shaft, (The adjusimert of the horizontal balance is now completed.) Horizontally balanced state Guciog lever Balance weight, * Stylus pressure fing “0” Fig. @Atter adjusting the horizontal balance, turn the balance weight ‘clockwise in the direction of the arrow and align the correct, stylus pressure, (Follow the cartridge manufacturer's recom: mandation.) (See Fig. 10) As the stylus pressure ring rotates together with the balance ‘weight, proper stylus pressure can be selected by directly reading the graduated ring. Not Set the stylus pressure to the maximum value af your cartridge in cases where the record has an extremely high recording level, ot where the unit is operated in a room at low temperature or in places in which the unit is liable to be subjected to vibrations, Antiskating control Set the anti-skating contro! knob to the same vaiue as that set for stylus pressure. (See Fig. 11). m ADJUSTMENT - 2 Adjustment of the arm lift beight. (See Figs, 12 and 13) ‘The arm lift height (distance between the stylus tip and record surface when cueing lever is raised) has been adjusted at the factory before shipping to approximately § to 10 mm. (in this case, cartridge height is 18 mm} if the clearance becomes too narrow or too wide because of the dhysical size of the different cartridges on the market, turn the adjustment screw clockwise or counterclockwise, at the same time pushing the arm tift down, Clockwise rotation distance between the record and stylus tip is reduced, Counterctockwise rotation distance between the record and stylus tip increases. Note: ‘As the adjusting screw has a hexagon head, be sure 10 make the adjustment white depressing the arm lift, Adjustments for automatic start and automatic return positions. (See Fig, 14) Shovid the tonearm not function correctly, make adjustments according to the following procedures. Adjustment for automatic start position (Remove the rubber cap.| {In cases where the stylus tip descends outside of the record ~Move clockwise, In cases where the sty(us tip descends onto halfway of a recorded piece Move counterclockwise, Adjustment for automatic return position (Remove tintable mat.) 10 cases where the tonearm tends to return before the playing nas finished Move clockwise, In cases where the tonearm fails to re the record Move counterclockwise, 1 atter the last groove of Balance weight 5 to 10mm. Cueing lever stylus pressure ring Center line ‘Speed adjustment. (See Fig, 15), ‘Strobe dots are set on the rim of the turntable platter according to the power frequency and the number of revolutions of the records. Make adjustment, referring to strobe dot indication, Set the speed selector to the number of revolutions to be adjusted, Release the arm clamp and raise she cueing lever Move the tonearm t2 a slight extent towards the tuentable platter, The strobe ittuminator/pilot lamp will etiuminate the strobe dots, and the turntable platter will rotate, While twrning the pitch control knobs either to “+” side or Side, adjust to such an extent that the sirobe dots of the iurntable platter took as if they were stationery. The state vader which the strobe dots seem to be stationary represents the correct speed, +" direction ‘This increases the spwed of the turntable rotation, and the strobe dot pattern seems to flow in the same diraction as the turntable platter ” direction ‘This decreases the speed of the turntable rotation, resulting in 2a stare opposite (0 that in the "+" direction Nowe: ‘Strobe dot pattern ‘The strobe illuminator/pitot temp of this unit employs the com- ‘mercially available power source. The feauency of such power source, wnen actually measured, has a fluctuation of about 0.2%. As such @ flucwation of the power source affects the strobe illuminator, the strobe dot pattern also seems to fluctuate to @ certain extent, But the unit is not atfected by the fluctuations of the power source, since @ D.C. motor is employed, Operation principles of the SL-1900 Svobe of 60 He, 39-179 rom. ‘The. 60cbe cots seer Yo be saonary be brietly explained This unit, like the SL 1300 has 8 retionel motor structure, and its drive control circuit is the B.F.G. type (Back TECHNICAL EXPLANATION electromotive force frequency generator) which is constructed on 3 single integrated circuit (IC) chip (ANG3O}, The following is a block diagram of the IC (ANE3O) for which the operating principle will @ Operating principle ‘The back electromotive force, which is generated by the drive coil winding according 1 the rotation of ine motor, is detected and converted to a frequency signet that 1s proportional to the number of revolutions, Conversion is performed by a wave-shaping circuit and 2 logic circuit (This is referred to as the B.F.G, method). This trequency signal is compared with 2 standard signa! by means of a trequency-voltage conversion circuit which converts it 10 a voltage signat in order maintain a constant number of revolutions. After removing un necessary frequency components, with the operational-amplifier active from this voltage signat, it controls the cur rent flow in three Gifferential switching circuits. As a result, the flow of current in the drive coil winding is always constant maintaining the correct rotational spe- 4. Control of the rotational speed can be performed by means of adjusting the standard signal generator circuit according to the rotational speed adjustment cir Explanation of each part 1,.B.F.G. METHOD (BACK ELECTROMOTIVE FORCE FREQUENCY GENERATOR} Making use of the back electromotive force that is Generated in the drive coil winding of the rotor as 2 frequency generator, the frequency of the frequency Generator is converted to the number of revolutions for the turntable ‘After shaping the wave form of this back electromotive force, it is composed togically, and a frequency is generated that is proportional to the number of revolu- ‘ions. This is the use of the B.F.G. Making use af the ‘rive coil winding, frequency generator coil windings and magnets are not necessary, yielding a motor struc ture that is very compact. 2. FREQUENCY-VOLTAGE CONVERSION CIRCUIT Being composed of a trapezoldal wave generating circuit, €@ pulse generating circuit and 2 sampfing integration ‘uit, the B.F.G. output frequency is converted to a vol- tage, and contro! output voltage is generated in order 10 maintain the rotational speed of the turntable at a cons: tant level, 3. OPERATION CONTROL CIRCUIT ‘The operation contol circuit functions as a control out- ut voitage control keeping the rotational seed of the ‘turntable constant with regard to the start of turntable ‘operation and the operation of the mectanism. With this ciouit, transient response characteristics and start- ing characteristics are very good. 4, OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIER (OP AMP) ACTIVE FILTER Because of using an operational amplifier in the active filter, an ideal titer operation is possible. ‘As a result, such high performance as a signal-to-noise (SN) ratio of 60 dB (IEC-B) and a wow-snd-flutter level of 0.03% (WRMS) have been achieved! 5, DRIVE CIRCUIT 3y incorporating a large capacity power transistor in the integrated circuit, a starting torque of 1 kg-cm can be cbtained. By means of this large starting torave, prompt starts have been realized. 6. THREE DIFFERENTIAL SWITCHING CIRCUITS ‘By means of the signal from the position signat coil, the starting circuit power transistor selector operates, ‘obtaining smooth rotation. @ Block diagram ee, T rive Greuit ” ‘vangaa . ” ars Position Signe!
