Determination of alkali content ( reference method)
1-weigh (0 .5000 0.0005) g of cement into 250 ml beaker.
2-add 50ml of distilled water and 50 ml of hydrochloric acid ( 1:19). 3-warm the mixture until the cement has decomposed , crushing any lumps with a glass rod. 4-allow the suspension to cool to ambient temperature. 5-transfer the contents of the beaker into a 500 ml volumetric flask then add 50 ml phosphoric acid (1:19) and make up to the mark with water and mix thoroughly. 6-filter without washing sufficient solution through medium filter paper into a clean , dry beaker . 7-spray the solution produced into the flame photometer and record the emission. 8-use the curves constructed to obtain the sodium oxide and potassium oxide in mg/l .
