MYP unit question:


Unit Question How does learning a foreign language teach us new
perspectives and how does family life compare in the U.S./UK and Frenchspeaking countries?

Objectives: learn greetings vocabulary, alphabet and numbers 1-10 and culture about school

Assessment: You will be observed and assessed every day as I look at your work and observe
your speaking, participation, effort etc. You will also receive a mark for the oral project, writing
project and the multiple choice practice quiz.

Go to www.rcsfrench.com (all textbook/workbook pages, audio, video, self-study info,


vocabulary and key phrases are there. When doing the pronunciation practice you can sit
with your group or go to the back of the class to practise alone.

Class TASKS:
Write the MYP Unit Question and also the learning objectives into your notebook
Unit Opener: Look at the photos in the text (pp. 1213). What do you think these students
are doing? Based on this photo, what are two ways that French students greet each other?
How are they the same as or different from the ways American students greet each other?
Read Introduction culturelle on p. 13 in the text.

This was homework.

Look at the photographs on p. 14 in the text. Read the captions.


Watch Video 1 or DVD 1, or listen to Audio CD 1, Tracks 12, Counter 6:5310:39.
Read Pour communiquer (p. 15). Write the words and expressions several times on a
separate sheet of paper.
Read Notes culturelles (p. 15). What is la rentre?
Do Activities 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the text (p. 16). Write the answers on a separate sheet of
paper. Say the answers out loud.
Listen to Lalphabet on Audio CD 1, Track 3. Repeat everything you hear.
Do Prononciation: Les signes orthographiques in the text (p. 17). Repeat everything you
hear. Try to sound like the people in the recording.
Do Activity 5 in the text (p. 17). Write both parts of the dialogue on a separate sheet of paper.
Listen to Les nombres de 0 10 on Audio CD 1, Track 5. Do Activity 6 in the text (p. 17)
on a separate sheet of paper.
Do Writing Activities 1, 2, 3 in the Workbook (pp. 34).
Do Listening ActivitiesAI in the Workbook (pp. 12). Use Audio CD 5, Tracks 19.

All activities should have a name and be underlined. Handwriting must be neat. The colours tell
you when to do the work at home.
Homework Day 1

Write down 3 typical French foods and 5 cities in France.


Write down 10 countries where French is spoken.
Copy all the phrases in todays speech bubbles into your notebook with one column for questions
and another for responses. They can be found on mrsharpe.weebly.com. Also write down the
phrases/words in the boxes. Make sure you know what they all mean in your own language.
