The projection and construction of new schools

Considering average of 35 students per class room, the required and excess number of
classrooms in each district by 2021 is marked in the map shown below. The detail district
wise data is shown in the table..
The analysis includes the data of both public and private schools. It is seen that by 2021
around 45,000 new classrooms are required to be constructed all over Nepal. If we estimate
20% of the new classrooms will be private, a total of 36,000 new public classrooms need to
be constructed by 2021 all over Nepal.
It is seen that most of the districts in hilly and mountain belts have excess number of
classrooms. As per the census data of 2011 some of the districts have population density as low
as 2 and the number of students per classroom is 3 and the trend shows that in coming years it
will be further reduced. In such districts with sparsely distributed population and schools,
concept of education village can be the best option for effective mobilization and utilization
of resources. Many schools can be merged together providing lodging and fooding facilities
to the students. This will increase the occupancy rate in the classroom which will make the
best utilization of the allocated resources by the government. At the same time children need
not travel long distance to their school from home, which will directly help to improve the
quality of their education.
Estimation of new classroom construction
To estimate the number of classrooms required by 2021, projected number of population in
2021 is calculated based on the population growth trend in each district from 2001 to 2011
and the total calculated population is reduced by 5% to match with the projection as per UN
growth rate.

Further the existing data of number of schools, students and class rooms were used to
calculate the multiplying factor (student per population).

The projected number of students and the required number of classrooms in 2021 is
calculated as follow.
