ASSIGNMENT
1. Starting with the expression I dl cost for a current element, show that the phasor expressions for vector
Potentials and field strengths will be

Az =

2.Show that the general expression for the distant electric field of a dipole antenna of any half-length H is

E =

3.(a)A 5-m long radiating element carries a current of 2 amp. It radiates in the = 450 direction in free space
at f = 10 MHz. Estimate the ratio of magnitudes of E and H at a point located at 30 km from the point of
origination. will it be different at 50 km.

(b)Evaluate the radiation resistance of an element of length l = 1m at f = 10 GHz

[T2, Page 85; Problems : 4 4.1, 4 5.2]
4.(a)Calculate the average power available at a 10 km distance if an element radiates in the = 300 direction
and carries a maximum current of 1 amp.
(b)If an element of 1 cm length radiates 1W at 3 GHz, estimate the effective current carried by the element.
[T2, Page 85; Problems : 4 6.1, 4 5.1]

5. Derive the far zone electric and magnetic fields radiated by a magnetic dipole of length l=/2 aligned
with the z axis. Assume sinusoidal magnetic current with maximum value I mo

6. A /2 dipole situated with its centre at the origin radiates a time averaged power of 600W at a frequency of
300 MHz A second /2 dipole is placed with its centre at a point P(r, , ), where r=200 m, =90 o , =40o .
It is oriented so that its axis is parallel to that of the transmitting antenna. What is the available power at the
terminals of the receiving dipole?
