NUCLEAR ENERGY

All about nuclear energy in France

WHAT IS NUCLEAR ENERGY

Nuclear energy is a kind of energy that comes from the
core of an atom which is called a nucleus. It is really
efficient and powerful, it is renewable and not really
expensive. Nuclear energy can be really dangerous when
converted to a weapon. Nuclear energy comes from
nuclear power plants.

HOW NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKS

Nuclear energy is made in a nuclear power plant and this is what happens.
A chain reaction of splitting atoms releases heat, this reaction happens in the reactor.
Nuclear power plant is one of the safest power plants in the world. Inside the reactor
there is metal rods with rich uranium pallets inside create a fuel assembly. There are two
kinds of common reactors: boiling water reactor and pressurized water reactors in the
boiling water reactor the heat of the splitting atoms create heat which boils the water
which create steam that turns the turbines that finally creates electricity and the rest of
the steam turns back to water and goes back to the reactor. In the PWR [pressurized
water reactor] it is kind of different until the part it creates electricity but after that it
changes the water is pumped back to the reactor tank and heated again the steam from
the turbine is cooled in a condenser the resulting water is sent back to the steam
generator which is heated again to not let it get over heated control rods that is made of
a material that observes small atomic particles are inserted to the metal rods. A thing
thats called nuclear fission is the thing that splits the atoms and create the heat that
boils the water and makes steam, the heat comes from the core of an atom which is called
nucleus.

IMPACTS OF NUCLEAR ENERGY

One impact it makes is that it creates nuclear radioactive waste which can
be harmful to wildlife and the environment. A good thing about nuclear power
is that it doesnt releases to much co2 maybe even none. It is less expensive
than oil and some other energy sources and it produces lots of energy. A bad
impact is that if there is a meltdown it is really dangerous because nuclear
stuff is radioactive and as I said before it can be really harmful. Another bad
thing about nuclear energy is that it creates nearly 2000000 kilograms
of

nuclear waste each year. It has tons safety systems

DISCOVERY OF NUCLEAR
ENERGY
Nuclear energy was found in 1895 by Otto Hahn and Enrico Fermi for
the first chain reaction. Otto Hahn was a German chemist in the
fields of radioactivity and radiochemistry who won the Nobel Prize in
Chemistry in 1944 for the discovery of nuclear fission. Enrico Fermi
was an Italian physicist he was also good at, nuclear and particle

PEOPLE OF FRANCE.
The bad thing about a country that 75% of its energy is that the more
nuclear energy we use the more nuclear radioactive waste we have.
Nuclear energy is not expensive and it is powerful. France uses the most
nuclear energy in the world, France has 59 nuclear reactors. This is a
picture.

NUCLEAR ENERGY COMPARED TO

OIL AND COAL
Nuclear energy compared to other kinds of energy like coal. If the
world was to replace nuclear power with fossil fuels it would
generate 2 billion tons more co2 [carbon dioxide] each year.

CAUSE AND EFFECTS OF NUCLEAR

ENERGY
Cause

Effect

The nuclear power gets converted to a bomb

and gets shot on a country.

You have a bigger chance of winning a war

but you kill animals, people and ruin the
environment.

You use a lot of nuclear energy.

You get lots of radioactive waste.

Its not expensive.

You get to keep more money and be rich.

Does not release too much carbon dioxide.

More people doesnt mind being and living

near that area.

Has lots of safety systems.

More safer and more reliable.

HYDRO POWER
Hydro electricity is also another source of energy used in France.
Hydroelectricity is a kind of energy and electricity that comes from the
water. It is not bad for the environment and it is not bad for people. It can
be bad for fishes and sea animals. It is like a turbine which is turned by the
force of the water in the sea.

HOW HYDRO POWER WORKS

The power of falling water turns the turbines which powers the generator
the generator creates electricity same in the wind turbines and the nuclear
power plant. Compressed air could then be piped to power other machinery
at a distance from the waterfall. Hydro power is a renewable energy source.
This happens in a dam

DISCOVERY OF HYDRO ELECTRICITY

Lester Allan Pelton was an American inventor who contributed significantly
to the development of hydro-power and hydroelectric power in the old West
and world wide. He discovered it in 1878.

IMPACT OF HYDRO POWER

Hydro power is safe for people but it is not safe for animals like fishes or
maybe even sharks. Does not pollute the area and it does not make any
noise so that means more people dont care if they come to that area which
gives the government more money and they get rich an probably famous.

HYDROELECTRICITY
Cause

Effect

Does not create pollution.

More people come to live in that area.

Does not harm people.

Is safe.

More people relies on it.

Kills animals.

Less food and less life.

Renewable.

It will never end.
