Objectives
The student will be able to describe different types of networks and the components of
the network with 80% accuracy.
The student will be able to accurately name and identify all technology hardware located
around the school.
The student will be able to connect pieces of hardware to make it operable with 100%
accuracy for chosen item.
The student will be able to explain how different types of hardware interact with the
network.
Standards Addressed
Relative Advantage
The advantage to having this course is so teachers will be able to identify and connect
technology around the building, so an information technology specialist is not needed
for connection issues, how to connect and disconnect technology, and to understand
how a network affects them positively and negatively.
Timeline
3-Hour Professional Development Session
Materials
Computer, Google Slides Presentation, Smart Boards, Ipads/Ipad cart, Desktop
computers, Document Camera
Grouping Strategies
The presentation will be given whole group. Small groups of 4-5 will be used for
interacting with the physical technology on campus (to observe, connect, and
disconnect).
Learning Activities
Discussion
Question and Answer
Identification of technology
Connecting and disconnecting hardware
Connecting components to the network
Assessment
Identification of technology (handout attached)
Formative assessment of connection/disconnection of hardware
Summative assessment - learner will explain how to connect a chosen piece of
hardware and explain at least 3 benefits and 1 drawback of a network
Adaptations for Learners
Print-out of presentation with large print (as needed) for learners with visual disabilities,
microphone for auditory disabilities.

Do you ever wonder why when a network goes down, it affects you? Do you know how
to connect technology in your classroom, or what the components of the technology
are? Do you know how to troubleshoot a simple hardware situation? This online course
will address these issues that are beneficial for all classroom teachers and staff to
understand.
