writer will volunteer each time we meet. Minutes will be
posted to CSI folder on common drive.

Goal

Reading Comprehension will improve


through student understanding of
the concept of main Idea

Comprehension looks very different in each grade level and main idea is only a tiny part of it.
Can we take the main idea part out? The cadre decides to revisit the goal and analyze Terra
Nova data to determine if we should take the concept of main idea out of the goal.

Strategy

We will reach our goal through the


implementation of the F&P guided
reading model. Cadre acknowledges strategy and model

Lets look at the Fountas & Pinnell Guided Reading Self


Assessment

Can we collect / conduct a self reflection from the staff on guided reading (management, grouping, text selection, etc.)? Everyone
is at a different level so this would just gather the information we need to help everyone get comfortable with guided reading.

What do you need to get started or improve? Help with
resources, help picking out leveled books, help grouping
my kids, help setting up a management system so the
other kids are working on practicing skills while Im
teaching in my small groups.

Making a website with a collection of videos and pictures of teaching examples would benefit us. D. Ardolino can create a Weebly to
store all these best practice examples of exactly what WE want it to look like in our school.
Can we have a little bit of time at the next staff meeting to show a video of focus on our main goal? D. Ardolino will ask for a
meeting with Ms. Peltz.

What next?
Distribute

F&P GR Self Assessment to all


grade-level chairs. (Lets try to get this out at next staff
meeting.)

Replenish

and organize folders on common


drive with effective center management
systems and resources (ongoing) (touch base
with third grade)

Send

ideas for PD day workshops to Diane


within 12/5 these should focus on GR
(how to plan and implement) and how to
manage the rest of the kids.

Ask Ms. Peltz for time to share a best practice video and staff self reflection.

Plan

for a community event to involve and


coach parents on our goal.
Ideas:
A interactive gallery walk through the grade
level hallways of the school. Parents together
with children, walk through their childs to
identify the main idea of a picture (kinder), a
sentence (1), a paragraph (2). a sequence
of pictures.(5)
Parent Involvement event with teachers showing/coaching parents important skills
to do at home with their children (what is guided reading, BAS, benchmarks, text
selection, asking questions, etc.) Ask Ms. Peltz for open CSI meeting day (October
28) for cadre to meet to discuss school event.

Event: November is not
