Lesson Goal(s): The students will learn/demonstrate concepts of evasion, strategy, and teamwork while participating in Frogger.
Physical Education/Health Standards:
1. NASPE Standard 1 - The students will use a variety of motor skills and movement patterns while participating in Frogger.
2. NASPE Standard 2 - The students will apply knowledge of strategy and concepts while participating in Frogger.
3. NASPE Standard 4 - The students will exhibit responsible personal behavior, social behavior, and teamwork while participating in
Frogger.
Lesson Objectives:
Cognitive Goals: The students will:
1. Be able to identify evading.
2. Be able to identify chasing.
Psychomotor Goals: The students will:
1. Be able to successfully evade a classmate.
2. Be able to successfully utilize multiple movement patterns within Frogger.
Affective Goals: The students will:
1. Be able to tell me what they enjoyed about evasion.
2. Be able to tell me their favorite part of Frogger and why.
Materials Needed: cones, agility hurdles, noodles, poly spots, scooters, hula hoops, mats, bean bags, and a bucket
Contextual Factors/ Learner Characteristics: 20-25 students in the class, class frequency is every third day, length of session is 20
minutes because two classes switch half way through the period between PE and Music so this lesson will be done twice during this
period. The students are all Kindergarteners who have been in Physical Education for a year and a half if they went to PreKindergarten and for this year if they did not. They know the routines of the class.

A. The Lesson
1. Introduction (1 minute)
Getting attention
How many of you have heard of Frogger before?

Relating to past experience and/or knowledge

Like Frogger you may have had to run from a friend or sibling in a game before like tag.

Creating a need to know

We are going to practice that today so you are better the next time someone tries to catch you.

Sharing objective, in general terms

In the activity today we are going to work on evading and working as a team.

2. Content Delivery (17 minutes)

I. Warm-Up (3 minutes)
1. Students will get in lines on half of the gym. There are 5 squad leaders that the other students are in line behind them.
2. Squad leaders will get to pick from various stretches/warm-ups the class then performs together. They already know the list
to choose from.
II. Activities (14 minutes)
1. Frogger (14 minutes)
a. Students will sit in a line on half court for instruction.
b. Cones will be placed along the sides of the basketball court as boundaries.
c. There are going to be 5 different jobs/stations we are all going to rotate through.
d. There will be 3-5 snakes that will sit on their own poly spot, and cannot move, at the front of the jungle. They
will use the noodles to try and tag the treasure hunters with the noodle.
e. There will be 3-5 crocodiles on scooters who will sit or lie on the scooter and move around to tag the treasure
hunters.
f. There will be 3-5 frogs on the lily pads (hula hoops). They can only hop from lily pad to lily pad and will do that
trying to tag the treasure hunters.
g. There will be 3-5 lizards that will hide behind their own mat (cave) and try to tag the treasure hunters as they
come to the pot of treasure. They cannot leave their mat.
h. The other students will be treasure hunters. They will try to go from one end of the gym (jungle) to the other end
where there is a pot of treasure (bucket with bean bags). To enter the jungle, they must crawl under or jump over an
agility hurdle. If they are tagged on their way to the treasure, they must go back to the beginning and can
immediately try again. If they make it to the treasure they take a piece of treasure (bean bag) and receive a free
back to the beginning and place the piece of treasure in a pile along the wall.
i. After an attempt or two by each treasure hunter we will pause the game for everyone to rotate to the next
creature. The rotation will be from treasure hunter to snake to crocodile to frog to lizard.
3. Closure (2 minutes)
1. Students will sit in a circle at half court for discussion.
2. Questions
a. What did you enjoy about evasion/Fogger?
b. What is the difference in chasing and evading?

Post Lesson Reflection 12/5/2014:

The stretching at the beginning went well. The students understand what is expected of them and participate well. In the first class, I
did not do a very good job of keeping the students engaged while I gave the instructions for the game. I also missed a couple of
instructions with the first class. I thought I did a better job keeping the students engaged in the second class during the instructions. I
reminded them that if they were quiet and listened really well, they would have more time to play and that helped a lot I thought. I also
thought I did a better job of explaining the game with the second class. It took both classes a couple of rotations to really understand
the concept of the game and the various creatures. Again, during the stoppage time of the game I could have done a better job of
reemphasizing various skills or concepts of the game. I tried to include more interaction and positive comments to the students as they
played but I could have done a better job of this. The students were physically active for the majority of the class which was good.
Following the closure I had the students skip to line up according to colors they were wearing. I thought that this helped decrease the
running and pushing to get in line that I experienced in my previous lesson. Overall, I thought the lesson went well. Students were
engaged and active for the majority of class. I obviously still have aspects to work on and get better at, but I felt more comfortable
during this lesson and I am excited to continue to grow and get better as a teacher.
