INSTRUCTION JOURNAL

Day 1/22/2015 http://www.historyofbridges.com/ In my opinion

bridges were made to cross stuff.
http://www.answers.com/Q/Why_were_bridges_invented
Bridges were made to get over them. Bridges start it by wooden
logs, stone and dirt. Horizontal beam supported at each end by
piers.

What was used before bridges?
Ferries was used before bridges were invented. There is an l-meterlong ferry that crosses the river. The ferry is initially on the left bank
where it broke and it took quite some time to fix it. In the meantime,
lines of cars formed on both banks that await to cross the river.
Thanks for the person that invented the bridges so we can go faster.

Beam
Advantages
Beam bridges are helpful for short spans.
Disadvantages
Beam bridges may be costly even for rather short spans.

Truss
Advantages
Very sturdy, can have several cracks in structure before breaking.
Disadvantages
Best for short distances, not attractive, hard to maintain.

Suspension
Advantages
It holds a lot of weight
Disadvantages
It costs a lot of money

Arch
Advantages
A major advantage of arch bridges is the fact that they are structurally sound
for short spans.
Disadvantages
A disadvantage of an arch bridge is that the bridge requires more support from the sides than a
normal bridge.
