In- Class Debate


Debate Topic:

Businesses should not just merely focus on


maximizing shareholders wealth but should also
attempt to solve societal ills.
In this booklet you will find:
1. Organizational Chart: must complete this chart during your
preparation
2. Reflection Questions: use this page to take notes during
debate
3. Rubric: checklist of what you will be marked on

Please hand in this booklet the DAY AFTER the


in-class debate and ATTACH YOUR one to two
page reflections.
Timeline during Debate:
1. Group 1 member 1 poses argument (2 minutes)
2. Group 2 member 1 poses opposing argument (2 minutes)
3. Group 3 member 1 asks ONE question to group 1 ONE question
to group 2 (1 minute)
4. Any member of group 1 responds with direct answer
5. Any member of group 2 responds with direct answer
6. Group 2 member 2 begins the next argument
Evaluation

evidence
Performance during debate
Reflection 3 questions (one to two pages max. in length)

Organizational Chart
This chart is to help you organize your arguments individually and as a
group. You want to ensure your arguments have enough supporting
evidence and are not repetitive. This chart will be marked for
preparation and organization. Therefore, it must be provided with your
reflection to Ms. Bawa on Thursday May 8, 2014.

Reflection
You are required to write a response to each question based on the
arguments and questions posed after todays debate. Your final mark
will be a combination of this reflection and your performance during
the debate. (Please see rubric attached)
Reflection should be a minimum of one page and maximum of two
pages in length.
(TIP: Use the space provided for point form notes during debate so you
remember the arguments posed by each side)
