God Bless America!

Or will He?
Our president has begun to encourage us all with the refrain, God Bless America. It helps
through the grief stricken mind numbing days since Sept 11, 2001. It is a simple prayer. It must
be a prayer because it certainly can not be a command. We are in no position to order God. So
though sometimes it could be considered a salutation, most often, it is a simple prayer.
Christians and Jews know that nations can not go to heaven or hell based on their collective
actions. Only people can be heaven or hell bound. Nations are rewarded or disciplined in the
world of time. So when we say, God Bless America we are asking God to favor us as a nation.
This request implies that as a nation we merit Gods blessings. Do we merit His blessing?

1. Back in 1962 we allowed the Supreme Court to remove prayer from our public schools. They
modified the meaning of church from being denomination to becoming church activity. For
170 years God had been permitted in our schools and it was constitutionally OK. In effect
they rewrote the constitution. Instead of a national uprising demanding impeachment of
these justices, the high court was allowed to remove our childrens ability to consider God in
their daily life. Yet they were allowed to create an imagined separation of church and state
clause. Will God bless this? I think not.

2. A year later the court removed bible reading from schools with the same fictitious clause.
Atheism had won the day. Will God bless our willingness to disacknowledge him to our
children? I think not.
Since those heady days when we, as a nation, collectively thumbed our nose toward our Creator
what has happened?

3. Without religious norms being advocated in schools humanistic (atheistic) norms prevailed.
Right and wrong were considered wrong. Personal preferences became the norms. By the
1990s kids were routinely having sex before 17, committing violence, and even murder to
resolve concerns. Will God bless this? I think not.

4. A man by the name of Kinsey wrote books on human sexuality that permitted anything
thinkable as being a norm in human sexuality. By the late 60s and 70s human sexuality was
being separated from morality. Sexuality began to be taught in schools without Christian
moral norms. The social free sex explosion resulted. Will God bless this? I think not.

5. Legislation gave us no-fault divorce. Since the cost of divorce went down the demand for
divorce rose astronomically. Today half our children are raised in single parent or blended
families. Will God accept this? Will He bless our collective action? I think not.

6. Then in 1971 the courts said that abortion was OK. The social cost of abortion went down so
the physical demand for it went up. Throughout all of history, across most religions, the killing
of innocent women, children, and unborn children were considered horrible events. Civilized
people would not permit it. Yet without God weve managed to kill off some 35 million unborn
children in a short 30-year period. Does God bless this? I think not.

7. Objectively, Truth remains whether we like it or not, and its existence excludes that which is
not true. But Truth became relative; in the humanist world if truth existed, then right and
wrong would also have to be acknowledged. Yet liberal norms have pushed the right/wrong
mindset into the corner with moral preference being the proper replacement. Today, our
nation lives with all the contradictions that all moral norms are equally valid and all behaviors
are simply governed by individual preferences. Does God bless this value system? I think

not. September 11th helped us all to realize the truth; evil exists. No one was willing to call
those deliberate crashes simply decisions of moral preference.

Stealing has been wrong throughout all of history and across all cultures. Yet legal theft, by
government, through the use of taxation, has been permitted. It has always been a matter of
degree. Today the liberal humanist believes that government knows best as to how we should
conduct many aspects of our lives. To fund this value wealth redistribution has happened at
increasingly higher levels. Does God bless or even want governments to forcibly remove wealth
or income from individuals? I think not.

9. Marriage between one man and one woman has been a foundational element in our country.
Up through 1960 the tax code and other legal tools supported marriage and the family over
other life styles. Today marriage has been attacked through tax penalties for the married, the
easing of divorce laws, and the cultural emphasis that other living arrangements are equally
valid. Does God bless this wrecking of marriage? I think not.

10. Virtue has been crippled in the 20th century. Honesty, integrity, perseverance, goodness,
kindness, and the hard work ethic are no longer the norms to be revered. Now each person
is to decide what is best for themselves. The atheistic humanist position is that since there is
no sin so there can be no ultimate good or virtue. Does God bless this new norm? I think
not.

11. Pornography has always been recognized as the obscene degradation of women and
children for the perverse pleasure of men. It portrays women and children as toys for the
sexual gratification of men. Women and children are reduced to sex objects. Our culture,
with its new-found secular atheist norms, propagates this degradation throughout the land
and the world through the Internet. Does God bless this? I think not.

12. Since 1971, when the American Psychiatric Association acquiesced to homosexual activists,
the new same sex-agenda has struggled to become the norm. The propaganda that
homosexuality was genetic was pushed. Few dared to question this assertion even though it
was and remains an irrational proposition. (Same sex unions can not naturally procreate and
therefore can not be genetically passed on.) Homosexual behavior generates more than a
dozen sexually transmitted diseases, making it possibly the most unsafe lifestyle in the world.
Smoking is a very unsafe behavior and we rightly discriminate against it. But discriminate
against homosexuality, a behavior that is far more unsafe, and you are labeled homophobic.
Does God bless these new sexual rules? I think not.
On September 11th the United States of America was attacked by Muslim terrorists. Our
President Bush called this an act of war and an extremely evil act. He also asked God to bless
America. Nearly everyone agrees it was evil. Nearly everyone (except the hard core atheists)
agrees with him about asking God to bless America.
This leads to the question; will God bless America? We recognize evil from the outside coming
in. Are we willing to recognize evil when it has been perpetuated from the inside out? If we
recognize the existence of evil, then we know it is an absolute, (just as good is an absolute) it is
not something that is merely a relative preference. Prior to 1960 the dozen items, mentioned
above, were considered evil by Christian and Jewish norms. Those norms were directly derived
from the Bible. God hasnt changed. If the above mentioned items were evil before 1960 they
remain evil today.
The problem is that God will not bless a country, which practices gross evil. If we continue to
walk in our evil ways, no matter how much we ask, God will not bless us. He will bless us once
again if and only if we turn from our evil ways (repent) and return toward honoring Him.
I pray that our government leaders and we citizens will all repent and that God will bless America
once again.
