THESIS 2015

Mobile Shelters
Prepared by: Dhruv Kumar
15 January 2015

OBJECTIVE
Todays world is full of opportunities, in terms of careers, relationships and more. There is a need for new way
of living. A way which allows people to be mobile. A way which allows people to live where-ever they want to.
The proposal is to have a network of housings around the world/city. People should be able to shift from one
to another freely, by being able to carry their pods with them without any help.

Primary
To design a mobile shelter (pod). One should be able to carry it like a suitcase, or a bag in its packed state.
When unpacked, this should act as a full fledged home, where one person can comfortably live. Thus, these
have to be ultra-mobile, by being able to fulfil multiple functions in the same space and using the same
furniture.

Secondary
These pods, should be able to combine to form bigger spaces, for partners, families, etc. Further, how these
pods will be arranged on a fairly large site. Would it be a rigid, or a dynamic arrangement? Will it be loud and
high, or silent and low? These are questions yet to be answered.

CURRENT STATUS
Some progress has already been made Mobile shelter(pod), has already been designed once before start of the semester. However, it was realised
that the design does not work well, and needs to be technologically advanced.
Arduino, a software which allows one to use robotic equipments, like sensors, motors, lights, etc, will be
used to give the pod a certain intelligence.

FURTHER ENQUIRY
Is the solution viable? What other applications could this mobile shelter have? Could this be a solution for onsite workers, archeologists and similar occupations?
