Expectations for Learning and Behavior: Remind the students to make good choices about who they are sitting
beside.
Hook/Attention Grabber: Choose 1 student and have them help you demonstrate how to play the game:
Sort cards into two piles: hot things and cold things
Partner A draws one card from each pile.
Partner B chooses either the is hotter than or is colder than card.

room to play the game.
Body (22 min.):

and Cold) as they play.
Assessments: Booklet page did the student compare hot and cold items in relative terms?

worksheet?
Differentiation: The pictures and labels on the cards offer support for students who are struggling with reading
and/or writing. This allows the focus to be on comparing temperature in relative terms. Students who are excelling
can mix up the hot and cold piles of cards and continue drawing 2 and making true sentences.

Closure (3 min.):
Consolidation/Assessment of Learning: Collect booklets
