However many residents are sill of the belief that Barwon Heads doos not receive the services Wwe should be getting wih such high rates. ‘The lack of a hard rubbish collection is ‘mentioned time and time again and it would be timely to read again the CoGG's view on hardrubbish collection. ‘Councit advises us that Federal, State and Local government have had a long held policy view (thirty years) that if you bring Something on to your property, you ‘should be responsible for taking it out ‘again. Al waste policy at state level is formulated around this View. A hard waste Callection for the entire CoGG area woul ‘ost around $4 milion every year. This may represent an extra 4% increase in rates each year. Given how compettive and efficient the ‘skip markel is in the CoGG area, councl believes itis beter fo lt the private market deal with hard rubbish. On. these ‘considerations it would also be cheaper for ratepayers, ‘Some residents may not know that council runs a Waste Hardship Program where assistance Is provided to assist residents with their waste disposal when genuine hardship exists. Funcing has been provides Via Councils Aged and’ Disabilty Support Program which pays for and engages private ‘contactors to remove rubbish fom residents ‘hat meet set cilia. There are a limited ‘number of tip vouchers, skips and other ‘mechanisms to dispose of waste in cases of ‘genuine hardship. Last month we reported that there are ‘always surprises in Barwon Heads.
