thepeptidebetaamyloidandtheneurofibrillarytanglesarethemain
neuropathlogicalalterationsfoundinAD.Neurodegenerationandtheprogressive
developmentofdementiaareaconsequenceofthesealterations.Studiesobserved
thatstatins(hypocholesterolemicdrugs)chronicusershavealowerprevalenceand
adecreasedriskforAD.Theliteraturewasrevisedtargetingtherelationbetween
statinsandAD.Thereisevidencethatthesedrugscandeacceleratethecognitive
declineandreducethediseasesevolutiverhythmthrough:pleiotropiceffects,
performanceconcerningendothelialfunction,inhibitionofbetaamyloidssynthesis
andreductionofneurofibrillarytanglesimpact.Thus,thereisanoteworthy
connectionregardinghighcholesterollevelsintheneurons,statinuseandthe
prognosisofpatientswithAD.(AU)
