structures during homeroom in the 9th grade in

ASW: Facilitated the analysis of student work


(ASW) of an assessment with 9th grade math
PLC. In this particular instance, there were
unbalanced results showing that one of the
teachers was perhaps not as effective as myself
and the other teacher. I facilitated her reflection,
and the team worked together to move forward
and through our collaboration the students
experienced much higher levels of achievement
by the end of the unit.

Supervision: I volunteered to work at various


events, such as: concessions at Lego League
competition, score-keeping at volleyball games,
and timekeeping at football games.
Ridge PTO: Attended a series of four PTO
meetings at Ridge where I could observe my
mentor interacting with teachers and parents.
At each of these meetings, a different grade level
presented (PK-3) to keep parents informed.
Through this experience, I learned more about
the functions and contributions of a PTO to an
elementary building.

be more effective in my new mentoring role, I
created a survey and sent it out to all new
teachers to gain their feedback. I used the
mentoring standards on a rating scale, and then
free-response space for them to identify
anything for me to stop, start, or continue doing.
I also communicated to teachers that this is
something they could consider creating to give
to their students as well.

Attended an Iowa City Community School District


board meeting with former associate principal,
Nick Proud, where the community came out to
give their opinions about the long-term plans for
facilities and redistricting.
Opening of Hill: Attended a meeting hosted by
the superintendent for parents to learn about
the process/procedures that will take place with
the opening of a new elementary building. The
leadership in the district had to plan for how to
distribute students in a way that was fair, ethical,
and ensured the best education for all students
involved.

Shadowed Kate Jones, elementary principal, for a full day.


I used the SAMs time analysis tool, and observed her in
many activities, including: supervision of students at
lunch, student discipline, observation of teachers, and
facilitation of a PBIS meeting. In addition, she took an
hour out of her afternoon for us to talk so that I could ask
questions, and she could give me advice.

Gary Connors-Boe, Four Oaks

Met with and shadowed Gary Connors-Boe at J St


Apartments after school program. Experience led to
further hours with presenting professional learning and
creating a resource document for the district that allows
staff, parents, and students to better understand the
services that are provided by community organizations
such as Four Oaks.

Shadowed my mom, Claire Atwood, for a half day. She


works at Trapeze Group in Cedar Rapids, IA. I especially
found helpful to think about how some components and
structures used by Agile could be brought into the
education world.
