THURSDAY, MARCH 5
WNY Drilling Defense Community Meeting
6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Crane Branch Library
633 Elmwood Avenue
Buffalo, New York 14222
Every week trains loaded with volatile crude oil fracked in North Dakota's Bakken shale travel through New York communities at 30 to
40 miles an hour. The DOT-111 tankers used to haul oil are defective and prone to explode in derailments. Bakken oil trains from North
Dakota are traveling across New York State and through the City of Buffalo.
With very little public awareness and no study of environmental impacts, the oil industry has made New York a dangerous pipeline for
crude oil that snakes thousands of miles by rail, barge and ship from oil fields in North Dakota and elsewhere, to refineries on both
coasts. Because they present an immediate danger to public health, we must work to halt the transport of oil trains. Join us in stopping the
bomb trains!
We will also be discussing next steps in the anti-fracking campaign in New York, including increased focus on renewable energy. These
meetings are open to all!

PUSH Buffalo Fights To Keep Education Public (Wednesday, February 11)
At the February 11, 2015 Buffalo Board of Education meeting, John Washington (PUSH Buffalo, WNY Peace Center) and Jenn Meccozi
(PUSH Buffalo) challenge the Board Majority led by Carl Paladino and Larry Quinn, both of whom are hell bent on turning 4 public
schools into charter schools (to the profit of Paladino and other charter school investors) by the end of the next school year.

Camp Peaceprints 2015
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Daily
St. Marys School For The Deaf
2253 Main Street
Buffalo, NY
We Leave Peaceprints.
Announcing the eighth annual Camp Peaceprints, brought to you by the Interfaith Peace Network, the SSJ Sister Karen Klimczak Center
for Nonviolence, the WNY Peace Center, and Women Against Violence Everywhere (WAVE). The Camp, for youth ages 8 to 13,
provides exposure to a diverse community while introducing and exploring communication, social justice issues, and peaceful conflict
resolution.
We learn how to cooperate, deal with feelings, and problem-solve; as well as exploring and hopefully being inspired toward Nonviolence.
This years special focus on leaving peaceprints will include ways in which we can make the world a more peaceful and harmonious
place.
We'll have wonderful guest presenters - activists and artists - from our communities. Students from St. Marys will be invited to join us in
our activities. Well also play games, have recreation (including swimming at Canisius College), do art projects, create a show, and enjoy
a family potluck on July 23rd. Youth assistants and adult volunteers are an integral part of the program.
Registration is $125 per week ($250 for the two-week period), with sliding scale and scholarships available.

RENEWABLE ENERGY (AE)
************************************
Repowering the Dunkirk Coal Plant and Cayuga Coal Plant With Renewable Energy
The fact that coal is a dangerous fossil fuel for human health and the climate coupled with the cheap natural gas is forcing coal plant
operators to close their plants, or curtail energy production. New York State's Public Service Commission held hearings on what to do
with the Dunkirk Coal Plant (Dunkirk NY) and the Cayuga Coal Plant (near Lansing NY on the shores of beautiful Cayuga Lake, just
north of Ithaca).
Only two choices were presented by the Public Service Commission: repower with natural gas or shut down the plants and improve
transmission lines into both areas. The global warming potential of methane is about 90 times that of CO 2 (Howarth: Climatic Change
106:679-690 (2011)).
Hence New York State's Public Service Commission is seriously considering an option (methane) that would enhance the global
warming.
The WNY Peace Center's Renewable Energy Task Force offered a third alternative: repower both with renewable energy by creating two
large solar parks: one at the old Seneca Army Depot (between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes) -- the other at the Dunkirk Coal plant itself.

RESIST MILITARISM (RM)
************************************
PETITION: No New Authorization For The Use Of Military Force
The U.S. Congress is considering another "Authorization for the Use of Military Force" -- a broad approval for more war.
This is the last thing we need. These wars are not making us safer but generating enemies. They are not surgical operations, but mass
killings, as well as assaults on the natural environment and the public budget not to mention excuses for curtailing civil liberties.
