What are hands?

Handy Facts!
...the end part of a
person's arm beyond the
wrist, including the palm,
fingers, and thumb.

What is the purpose of having hands?

The human hand is different to the hands or
paws of other animals, because it has fingers
and a thumb that can work together. The hands
of our nearest relatives, the apes, also have
thumbs like ours!
Our thumb can work with each of our fingers,
including our smallest finger and our ring finger,
so we can do much more complicated things
than most animals.

Helped mankind survive!

Our thumbs help us to pick things up and use

tools.

fingers and toes because our ancestors

everything.

Double jointed? Hitchhiker thumb?

People have the greatest
flexibility around ball-andsocket joints, which involve the
ball-shaped end of one bone
fitting into a corresponding
depression on the other
bone.The shallower the
indention is, the greater the
flexibility in movement. Thus,
people who are double-jointed
sometimes have shallower
joints that allow a wider range
of movement. http://www.
yalescientific.org/2010/05/why-are-somepeople-double-jointed/

Some people with a hitchhiker's

thumb are capable of bending the
joint in the thumb to extremes which
may look uncomfortable to people
who lack this genetic trait. You may
also hear hitchhiker's thumb referred
to as hyperextension of the thumb in
a reference to this. There is no
particular advantage or disadvantage
of having a hitchhiker's thumb, and it
certainly does not predispose people
to hitchhiking. http://www.wisegeek.org/what-ishitchhikers-thumb.htm#didyouknowout

Nail polish? If you think about it its

actually really weird! Yes it is!
Nail polish originated in China, dating
back to 3000 BC. Around 600 BC during
the Zhou Dynasty, the royal house
preferred for the colors gold and silver.
and the high society red.
After the creation of automobile paint,
Cutex produced the first modern nail
polish in 1917.
