Visual Metaphor

Oral Presentation

You will share your knowledge of your selfselected system AND choose 1 out of 5 other
systems.

A visual metaphor is a visual representation

that shows a bigger idea by comparing it to
something else.

You will need to be able to identify:

1. Name the system and describe
the purpose of the system
2. State the different parts of the
system and describe their purpose
within the system
3. What are the causes and impacts
of the inequalities in the system?
4. What can YOU do to improve
access or improve equality?

You will create a visual metaphor about your

self-selected interest area that includes
Causation OR Responsibility, OR Reflection.

Concepts

Visual Metaphor

Student's visual
metaphor includes
images that literally
represent their selfselected area, but
does not show an
understanding of the
concepts.

Skills

Student attempts to
communicate the
purpose of their
metaphor but is
confusing to the
listener.

Oral
Communication
Presentation

An oral presentation will be approximately 23 minutes speaking about your visual

metaphor and the visual choices and
message you hoped to share.
You will communicate your understanding of
the bigger idea and how your visual
metaphor expresses your feelings.
You will:
1. Identify facts (things you see, colors
and objects) and the purpose of each
creative choice?
2. What is the message?

Exemplary
Student shows an
understanding of
connections between
two or more systems.

Student's visual

causation of a
problem, causes the
viewer to reflect, or
motivates the viewer

Table of Knowledge: Show your understanding and knowledge of two systems. The first system will be the one you
chose for your inquiry. The second system can be chosen from this list of 5 systems: education, sanitation, work conditions,
health care, or transportation.
