COURSE EXPECTATIONS/POLICIES:
Attendance: Considering this is an online course it is expected you will check D2L and email daily. I
will use D2L for most of the communication (including email initiated from D2L). If you encounter an
emergency that will affect attendance for one week or longer, you are to contact the Office of the Dean of
Students at 715-232-1471. Your instructors will then be notified of your absence.

Excused absences are permitted. You must notify the instructor in advance of any planned absences.
Homework: If you miss a class, you are responsible for getting the assignment from a classmate. I will
not email assignments or give them over the phone. The due date does not change because you missed
class. All assignments are due at the beginning of class on the due date. Late assignments will not
be accepted!
Participation: Chapters are to be read prior to the lecture. You should be prepared upon entering
class to participate in discussions. You will be called upon to provide answers, to have completed
problems to the best of your abilities, and to share your thoughts and process with the class. We all
benefit from everyones input and experience. There may be in class (unannounced) assignments,
quizzes, activities, etc. throughout the semester. If you are absent when this occurs, you will receive a
zero for the item. Make-ups of these items will not be allowed.
Procedures for notifying students of class cancellations:
For non-school closing cancellations, a notice will be posted on the class room door and/or via email.
The UW-Stouts policy on school closing for bad weather is that the University will not close.
Always assume class will be conducted on bad weather days. Use your judgment on traveling to UWStout in bad weather. Your safety is first, then class. If the weather is bad enough that you should not be

traveling, do not travel. If you will not be making a class due to bad weather, please call or email the
instructor as soon as possible.
Quizzes: Generally, quizzes will be given on a weekly basis corresponding to the subject matter for that
week. ONLY in an emergency situation will quizzes be allowed to be made up. NOTE: Missing a class
for a minor illness is not considered an emergency. The instructor holds the right to determine emergency
and/or non-emergency situations.
Exams: You are expected to be present for all exams; make-up exams are generally not provided. Only
under extenuating circumstances will a make-up exam be given. To make up an exam, you must have
my approval PRIOR to the exam and documentation of the extenuating circumstance will be required.
Upon my approval, a make-up exam must be taken within 48 hours or before the next scheduled
class period (whichever comes first) at a time that is convenient for both the student and instructor. Any
exam taken late will not be returned to the student for review at the same time as timely exams. Failure to
reschedule the exam or take the exam in a timely manner will result in a grade of 0 on the exam.
Certification Exam: This course requires students take the industry exam 70-410-Installing and
Configuring Windows Server 2012. This will be your final exam for the course and is 10% of your final
grade.
The Information Technology Management (ITM) program will host class room testing for all Cisco
certification exams. Certification exam (70-410) for your course has been already scheduled on following
days.
This exam is a course requirement and if the exam is not taken at the scheduled time, you will fail
the course your final grade will be F.
Instructor Communication: I will communicate with you outside of class via D2L and your UW-Stout
email address. It is the students responsibility to check both D2L and UW-Stout email regularly.
When sending your instructor email messages, make sure you always:
Write the COURSE Number and SECTION Number in the subject line
Address the instructor properly (hey Bill is NOT acceptable, Hi Mr. Smith or Hi Bill would
be acceptable)
Use caps only when necessary
Use complete sentences in correspondence
Be clear in your correspondence by referring to specific information (ex: Exercise 2-13 from
Chapter 2)
When you send me an email, you can expect a reply in 24 to 48 hours, except on weekends. I do only
check email from Friday at 4 p.m. thru Monday at 8 a.m one time.
Classroom Behavior: (online) Name-calling, inappropriate innuendoes, personal rude/disrespectful
comments, swearing, inappropriate touching, and physical violence are unprofessional and inappropriate
on the job and in the classroom. Such behavior will not be tolerated. If this type of behavior occurs, the
student may be asked to leave the room immediately and security will assist if needed.
Professionalism: It is my expectation that all work will be completed in a professional manner. No
credit will be given if you do not show professionalism in your work. Professionalism is shown through
