a structured format.

Circle which of the following formats it will be;

Lifestyle magazine article
Lifestyle television or radio Programme article
Television or radio documentary
Childrens news website
Commercial blog

Planning for Interview One

Interviewees Name:
Date and Time of interview:

How will you record the interview?

I will record the interview with multi-camera techniques in a studio.

In what medium (audio, visual, written etc.) will the final interview be presented?
The final interview will be presented through a visual medium.

What information do you need to get from this interview?

We need to collect information on the opinions of the interviewee on the topic of red carpet events
and how they feel about them, such as if they agree or disagree with the topic.

Describe how you are planning on contacting and liaising with your talent (interviewee)

I will be contacting my interviewee through a series of direct messages and phone calls to ensure
that I can arrange the interview indefinitely. When I arrange the interview I can mutually corporate
with my interviewee face to face, this will make the communication between me and the

Production Booklet

interviewee more collaborative.

How will you make sure unnecessary sounds etc. are not recorded?
I will attempt to record the interview timed to avoid any disturbances to the room I am recording in.
I will be recording in the studio so I can make sure any persons do not enter the premises of the
recording area to create any background noises. By timing the recordings I can decrease the
chances of any disturbances to the ambience of the recording area.

If visual recording, explain how you will deal with any issues caused by ambient light.
We can experience some issues with ambient light such as over exposure or under exposure so
we must place the interviewee in a suitable position where we can control the lighting that the
camera will be picking up. We can deal with these issues by changing the position of the
interviewee to avoid unwanted light that will affect the interviews appearance.

What equipment will you need to carry out this interview?

We will need two studio cameras that are stationary and in the studio to record the visual part of
the interview. We will then need to use either the studio microphone to record the audio or the built
in microphone on the studio cameras. We will also then need to use the studio lights facing the
interviewee to create a controllable light.

Structuring your interview: Scripts and Question Formulation

Question:
Based on your knowledge of the industry, do you think that the anticipated films
coming in 2015 will be considered as successful projects, both for the actors and
the industry of film, and why?

Likely Response:
I believe that the soon coming films in 2015 will live up to
their expectations and be fairly good films that are good
competition with the films in recent years.

Next Question:
Initially Ryan Gosling, Ben Affleck and Brad Pitt were cast to play the main roles in
the new upcoming film Focus, what do you think of this unexpected decision from
the actors dropping out and do you think it was a good decision for the main role to
be replaced by Will Smith?

Likely Response:
I believe that the change was a good idea because Will
Smith had a very appealing audition for the main role and
he is enthusiastic about leading in the film.

Next Question:
The film Focus is critically acclaimed to be one of the best blockbuster hits of 2015,
does this place too much pressure on Will Smith and could this eventually be a
peak project in his recent career.

Likely Response:
Will Smith is likely to continue being a leading man in huge
films released all over the world and it is possible that
eventually a lot of heat will be placed on Will Smiths
acting.

Question: recent press have stated that OSCARs academy President Addresss
controversy over All-White acting nominees. Are you aware of this?

Likely Response:

Next Question: Do you think that more black actors and actresses should have
greater involvement in the Oscar nominations for the sake of the Controversy or
should it still be bases on the talent of the actors and actresses? Regardless of
race.

Likely Response: I think that the Oscars should be based

on talent. Thats how its always been and the most recent
nominations were given to the lead role and unfortunately
there were no black lead roles in the nominated films.

Next Question: Do you have an opinion on the diversity in the acting world? Do you
think that there are too many British actors taking the so called great American
roles?

Its about the life of a con-artist who takes a woman under
his wing to help him which leads to him becoming
romantically involved with her.

Next Question: I saw that you werent the first person to be picked for the main role
(Nicky), you were actually the fourth. How did this make you feel? Did this have any
effect on your decision?

Likely Response:
Yes I was fourth, I felt fine as all of the actors that were
before would have been able to do as good of a job as I
did. No not at all, this can happen a lot when choosing the
cast.

Interview Style for Interview One

What will your interview style be? (Formal, informal and chatty, intense, questioning,
argumentative, friendly, jokey)
The interview style will be informal and friendly. The format for the show will be presented in the
style of a chat show.

Why have you chosen that style?

I have chosen this style because my genre is often presented in an informal way as its main
purpose is for entertainment as appose to education or politics witch is normally presented as
formal and argumentative.

Add research of other interview/chat shows where the presenter has a similar style. You can insert

Hello welcome to the show. The past few months have been stirred up about the recent
controversy in OSCARS and how Black actors havent been involved enough (Transition to

So Andrea, I understand youve been a Film Studies teacher for over 10 years now. You
must have a huge knowledge of the film industry. Did you get a chance to watch the

Will Smith and could this eventually

Now we go over to Harry reporting live from the Henley college campus, where he will be
interviewing independent film maker Nic Saunders.
(HARRY) 15:45:54
Thanks Kaan.
Hi there Im joined here by Nic Saunders an independent film maker and also a teacher
here at the Henley College. Hi Nic, How are you?
Could you give us a brief insight to your career in filmmaking?
Now the topic that we are going to be discussing is around independent films and how
they are publicized and promoted to the public. Independent films are not produced by
the big major studios so they have considerably lower budgets and also they have to
find their own way of promoting their film. Now, youve had first-hand experience in
having to promote your films. Did you come across any difficulties when you first
started off as a film maker when it came to promotion?
Have there been situations when your method of promotion hasnt worked as well as you
expected? If so what do you think went wrong.
Social media, especially Facebook and Twitter have been very good platforms for
promotion over the past few years, this is mainly because you are able to search and
target people based on their interests like the topic of a film. What are your thoughts
on the massive growth of social media and how it has become easier to promote via them?
So would you say that right now, social media is the best form of promotion or are
there other forms that you prefer?
Out of the three films you have made, which one did you enjoy making the most and why?
Are you planning on creating any new films in the near future?
Finally, for people at home who are thinking of make a film and promoting it
themselves, could you give them any advice to help them along?
Brilliant, thank you very much for your time Nic. Now back to the studio were we will
have Charles discussing the OSCARS and the controversy around them.
(Insert 4th clip 1:03)
(CHARLES)
Over the past few months a lot of talk about the lack of ethnic actors winning an Oscar
has hit the headlines.
Since 1958 17 black actors have been nominated for best actor but only four have won.
In that same time only 9 black actresses have been nominated for with only Halle Berry
winning.
Im joined today by Film lecturer and Film enthusiast Andrea Walter to discuss the
ethnic issues facing Hollywood at the moment.
So, Andrea I understand youve been a film studies teacher for over 10 years now. You
must have a huge knowledge of the film industry.
So as a lover of film did you get a chance to watch the Oscars?
What did you think of the winners and were there any shock wins for you?
Recent press have stated that OSCARS academy is an all-white
Do you think this is fair to say?
Do you think that more black actors and actresses should have greater involvement in
the OSCAR nominations or should it still be based on the talent of the actors and
actresses regardless of race?
Al Sharptons response to the Oscars all white nominees was that The movie industry
is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher it gets the whiter it gets

Production Booklet

What is your take on his response?

Can you think of any roles/ Actors who should have won an award but didnt because of
their race?
Moving away from the ethnic controversy. It seems that more English actors are being
nominated and winning than ever before. Why do think we are winning these awards now?
British films are starting to move away from the kitchen sink genre and more towards
the typical Hollywood style of film making do you think that this is why our actors
are winning more?
As a film teacher do you enjoy teaching British or American films more?
Thanks Andrea thats all we have time for. Now over to joe with his film review of
2014.
(Insert 5th clip 1:54)
(JOE)
2014 saw a larger range of independent style biopics based on the storytelling and
characters rather than the graphics of previous years. Chris Bennett an avid film goer
who is currently studying Film is here to give us his personal opinion on just a
handful of these films.
Chris you frequently attend the cinema and have seen the majority, if not all of the
big blockbusters and indie films of 2014. What has been your overall feeling of the
quality of films of this year?
Now there has been a lot of films released in 2014, with a wide range of genres and
styles. But what films have practically stood out for you?
The Theory of everything has been critically acclaimed in the film industry recently
for its beautiful looking cinematography and award winning acting. The film that stars
Eddie Redmayne as Steven Hawking and Felicity Jones as Jane wild has made well over $60
million in worldwide box-offices. (insert 6th clip 0:52)
Looking at reviews of the film it seems to be getting a really good response from the
general public and critics, what was your first opinion on the film?
Although it has got a good response by many, some people have described it as a safe
film just designed to get awards and say it also doesnt really giving the amazing
story justice? Do you agree with this?
The Imitation game staring Benedict Cumberbatch has also be one of the big pioneering
films of 2014.(insert 7th clip 0:52) What was your overall feeling and opinion of the
film? Do you feel like Benedict gave the role what it needed?

Define the format of your programme

What will happen in the first segment?
In the first segment of our program the host (Kaan Sengunes) will open the show and explain to the viewers
a brief summary of the format of the show, afterwards the programme will start on the first topic. The first
segment will continue to talk about red carpet events, Kaan will begin talking to Will Farman about red
carpet events and the pressure they put on actors, this will then revolve around the topic of the new
upcoming film Focus with Will Smith. I will talk to will about his opinions on the premiere of the film and the
future of the actor.

What will happen in the second segment?

In the second segment of the programme the host will hand the show over to Charles who will be talking to
his guest Andrea. Charles will start the second segment on his topic discussing the controversy around the
Oscars and how ethnicity, race, gender and age are viewed at the award ceremonies. Once Charles has
finished discussing the controversy of the Oscars he will hand the show over to the live show. Harry will be
live on the Henley College campus talking to Nic Saunders about short films and the costs of filmmaking.

What will happen in the third segment?

In the third segment of the show, Harry will end his interview on location and hand it back to the studio, in
the studio the interview will be passed onto Joe. Joe will begin talking to his guest about the films of the
previous year and the anticipated films of 2015; the main topics will be the critically acclaimed films of the
year and Joes specific films that he has chosen to talk about. Joe will wrap up his interview and then hand
the show back over to the host. The host will conclude the show and end it.

Production Booklet

Using your mind map, answer the following questions.

What will the presentation style be? (Formal, informal and chatty)
The presentation style of the programme will be informal and chatty, the overall mood of the show is
comedic so this will make the show light entertainment and talkative. The show is designed to be
informative and useful as well as gossipy so it will provide facts for the viewers as well as opinions from the
guests and hosts. Because it is an informal show, it will not be serious; this allows the interviewees to talk
and base their views and opinions on the topics discussed in the show.

Add research of other interview/chat shows where the presenter has a similar style.

Define the visual style of your show.

The visual style of my show will be glossy and bright, it will include rich colours and images such as award
ceremonies and celebrities. The show will appear stylish and modern as its main intentions are to reach out
to people who are up to date on latest films and topics, this will provide the show with an underlying theme.
I will sue colours such as reds golds and blacks as these colours are often associated with movie events
and award shows, however they must be fluorescent and bright to display that the show if light and for
comedic entertainment only.

Stick in relevant images of previous shows, interiors you would like to emulate, lighting style etc.

Links
How will you link each interview to each other?
(You may use cut away to clips of them doing something relevant. Remember you will all be swapping
roles so you may not be able to film live at this point.)

Link between interview 1 and Interview 2

Interview 1 and 2 will be linked by a cutaway link to a video that the host was talking about, the first
link will show a premiere of Will Smith at a premiere for his new film, this is relevant because the
guest was talking about the film, and the clip will show our chosen topic live from a location. This clip
will be pre-recorded footage of a red carpet premiere that we downloaded.

Link between interview 2 and Interview 3

Interview 2 and 3 will be connected by a live on location clip of a crew member doing an interview.
The interview will be passed on from the second interviewer to the live location shoot, this clip that it
cuts to was recorded by the crew and is relevant because the guest expands on his point by passing
the interview over to the third interviewer. This clip will be of the interviewer interviewing an
interviewee about the chosen topic and will expand in detail the discussion.

Link between interview 3 and Interview 4

Interview 3 and 4 will also be connected by an overlaying clip that has been downloaded, this will
show images relevant to what the interviewer is talking about and the clip will run after the interviewer
has finished. The interview has a similar topic and will be brought back from the live location shoot
and passed onto the next interviewer in the chair.
