Prior to start: The Outsiders poster is put on screen.


Teacher writes themes discussed last lesson on board.
Introduction: Attendance taken. Class is asked to take out
laptops and open up class Weebly site. When done put the
screens down.
Teacher introduces lesson: Today we will be continuing to
look at the themes of The Outsiders and ways of expressing
themes through different media.
Body: Teacher describes how people want to do things as fast
as possible these days and the creation of a sixty-second
informational clip, which explains a large topic in a succinct
coherent and concentrated form. Teacher explains how
students will be creating a clip representing the themes from
The Outsiders, with a choice of their own film.
Teacher plays the example clip of The Outsiders in sixtyseconds.
Teacher facilitates class discussion and brainstorms on the
whiteboard how accurately the clip is represented on all of the
themes from The Outsiders.
Teacher briefly outline task. Students to open laptops and
follow instructions of class Weebly, the teacher is to walk
around facilitating and aiding the learning.

Body: Teacher will post chart lists about identity, class, race,
and cliques, Teacher will model the definitions of these.
Teacher will prompt students to give everyday life examples
for the above definitions.
As part of a class discussion, students and teacher will
compose a list on the whiteboard on the topic of East vs. West
to chart out the differences and similarities between the
Greasers and Socs. Students will use this information as hints
pages for the following task.
Students then go onto Spiderscribe to briefly answer the
questions that the teacher has assigned in relation to the text.
Teacher will explain that students need to be critical in their
responses and consider the main ideas, events and themes
when composing their responses. Teacher will walk around
the class facilitating and aiding the student learning process as
they explore the story of The Outsiders in contrast to their
present day.

Conclusion: Teacher will pick a few alternative examples of

naming the student will ask the class to respond to whether

Body: Role-Play each student is given a role of a character


from The Outsiders on a card. In groups, students discuss
attitudes and beliefs of characters and possible reactions to
situations.
After each skit, teacher will prompt a discussion on why the
students chose this particular skit and why characters may
have reacted in certain ways. Class as a whole will discuss the
influence of family in each skit? Students will then go onto
the class Weebly, Lesson 3- The Outsiders Forum where the
teacher has provided a comprehensive list of questions
relating to the text, for students to answer. Students are
encouraged to personify their answers and reflect on the idea
of family structures.
Conclusion: Teacher will facilitate a question and answer
discussion in relation to the students forum for students to
understand the influence of various points of view. Teacher

Introduction: In preparation for the final assessment, this


lesson will focus on the techniques used for essay writing.
Firstly teacher will direct students to Weebly page and ask
them to do our pop-quiz on Testmoz. This is so students
remember key facts and kick starts them to get into The
Outsiders frame of mind.
Body: Teacher will model for students the 10 tips for quality
essay writing. Teacher will use the question "Explain what it
means to be a hero in the context of Ponyboy's world" from
the previous lesson as an example for students to highlight
key words and brainstorm ideas, Students will then write a
plan for the response. Teacher will walk around and assist
those students that need clarification and help. Students then
use the ICT tool "Essay Map" to write the introduction, main
body and conclusion to the question.
Conclusion: Students will edit the draft and check for
spelling, punctuation and grammar. This time will also be
utilized for students to seek feedback from peers or the
teacher before writing the final copy for a formal assessment.
