Intensive Summer Chinese and Japanese Courses

Apply now to study in Boulder, Colorado, this summer!

The following courses run from June 1 to August 6:


Beginning Chinese (CHIN 1010 & 1020; 10 credits)
Introduces modern Chinese (Mandarin), emphasizing speaking as well as reading and writing. Traditional full-
form characters and the simplified versions used in mainland China will be learned.

Intermediate Chinese (CHIN 2110 & 2120; 10 credits)


Emphasizes reading, speaking, and writing modern Chinese, including continued study of both full-form and
simplified characters. Introduces dictionaries and principles of character formation.

Beginning Japanese (JPNS 1010 & 1020; 10 credits)


Thorough introduction to modern Japanese, emphasizing speaking, listening, reading, and writing in a cultural
context.

Intermediate Japanese (JPNS 2110 & 2120; 10 credits)


Continued study of oral and written modern Japanese in a cultural context.

Advanced Japanese (JPNS 3110 & 3120; 10 credits)


Enhances student competence and performance in Japanese language in a holistic and integrative manner.

CU-Boulder’s Center for Asian Studies is a FLAS grantee, and these courses satisfy the requirements for summer FLAS fellow-
ships. The cost for Colorado residents and non-resident students is the same at approximately $3000. Graduate students can
use FLAS fellowships from their home institutions, or can apply for FLAS fellowships from CU to fund their summer study
(information about application procedures available at http://www.colorado.edu/cas.flas.html; deadline is Monday, February 15,
2010).
