in order to spell words phonetically both with teacher assistance and with
independent attempts. Fumi demonstrates increasing competence in
emergent writing and reading skills. She uses upper and lower case in her
writing and makes regular attempts at writing for a variety of purpose
including notes for friend and bookmaking. Fumi participates in book
sharing activities including using informational texts to research
information. She works with teachers on skills to help her isolate sounds,
blend, and segment sounds in words. Fumi has shown tremendous
growth in her expressive and receptive language skills both in speaking
and listening. She speaks out in class and engages in conversations with
both peers and familiar adults often initiating the exchange.

practices subitizing skills using classroom materials, as well as in a ten
frame game with teacher assistance. She completes puzzles with more
than 20 pieces. Fumi recognizes numerals and the quantities they
represent. She uses standard and non-standard tools to participate in
measuring activities, and demonstrates abilities to make predictions and
collect data when she completes surveys.

Childs Development
Fumi participates in active inquiry in the classroom both during group
investigations as well as independently. Fumi is a classroom leader for
group experiments and explorations as she shares her natural curiosity
and excitement with others. With teacher assistance, Fumi is able to
make predictions, test her hypotheses, record information about her
investigations and explain her data, as well as use other representations
to express her learning. She shows respect for and interest in the needs
of living things when she interacts with the Nature Explore classroom,
