Intro: (10 min)

- Ask students What is a fact?
-ask for examples
- Ask students What is an opinion?
-again, ask for examples

- Tell them we are going to describe Fact and Opinion by

placing the pieces of paper with words/phrases on
them under the right column of Fact or Opinion
- In random order, hold up a piece and ask them to
raise their hand to answer which column it should
go under.
- Randomly ask why they believe it to be a fact or
opinion
- Once all pieces are placed in right column explain
what the next activity is. Make sure to keep columns
up for students to reference back to during next
activity.
-Students will log on to their laptops and open up a
word document
- Explain to students that they will be typing out 3
opinions and 3 facts on the topic of Spring,
individually. They want to keep them to themselves
because they will be sharing them later.
Demo: (5 min)
- I will open up my tablet and demonstrate how I want
their paper to be set up. Again, leave this out for
students to reference back to
- First their full name at top
- Then the date
- Finally, the topic: Spring
- Under Spring, students will then have facts
-Under facts, students will have their opinions.
Participation: (20-25 min)
- Allow students time to type up their three facts

and three opinions (10-15 min)

- Once time is up, students will regroup together
for a discussion on their facts and opinions they
came up with
-What are some facts you wrote about Spring?
-How did you know it was a fact?
-What led you to think it was a fact?
-What key words told you it was a fact?
-Same for opinion
-See if opinions they found are the same as their peers
and mention any similarities.
Practice: (10 min)
-Once discussion comes to a close, each student will
create a video using the app Puppet Pals to tell one
fact and one opinion they came up with and one fact
or opinion another person shared and what part of
the lesson they like the most.
- Demonstrate how to use Puppet Pals
-Pick character and background
-Show how to move and grow person
- They can have 5 minutes to think of what they
would like to say for the video. Students can write it
down if needed
- One by one students will create video with teacher
supervision.
- While one student is recording the others should
fill out reflection about lesson
- Once finished with that, they can draw a picture
that reminds them of Spring

-Students who struggle with coming up with a fact or opinion,

refer them to column we created in the beginning and show
that if they use the key words, their sentence they create
will be a fact or opinion
- Students who are struggling with distinguishing between
fact and opinion, try giving more example to help them see
the difference and referring to columns again.
-For students who finish early, ask to see if they can write
one more fact and one more opinion about the topic.
