WHY DO WE NEED
STRONG GRAMMAR?

WHAT IS A CAESURA?
break,interruption
Inmeter, acaesura(/sijr/or/sr/(Latin:caedere); alternative spellings
arecsuraandcesura) is a complete pause in a line of poetry or in a musical composition. [1]
The plural form ofcaesuraiscaesurae. In poetry, amasculinecaesura follows astressedsyllable
while afemininecaesura follows an unstressed syllable. A caesura is also described by its
position in a line of poetry. A caesura close to the beginning of a line is called aninitialcaesura,
one in the middle of a line ismedial, and one near the end of a line isterminal.Initial and
terminal caesurae were rare in formal,Romance, andNeoclassical verse, which preferred medial
caesurae. Inscansion, poetry written with signs to indicate the length and stress of syllables, the
"double pipe" sign ("||") is used to denote the position of a caesura.
Inmusical notation, a caesura denotes a brief, silent pause, during whichmetrical timeis not
counted. Similar to a silentfermata, caesurae are located between notes ormeasures(before or
overbar lines), rather than on notes or rests (as with a fermata). A fermata may be placed over a
caesura to indicate a longer pause.
In musical notation, the symbol for a caesura is a pair of parallel lines set at an angle, rather like
a pair of forward slashes: //. The symbol is popularly called "tram-lines" in the U.K. and "railroad
tracks" in the U.S.

Homer
Caesurae were widely used in Greek poetry, for
example, in the opening line of the Iliad:
||
("Sing, o goddess, the rage || of Achilles, the son of
Peleus.")
This line includes a masculine caesura after , a
natural break that separates the line into two
logical parts. Unlike later writers, Homeric lines
more commonly employ feminine caesurae. Caesurae were widely used in Latin poetry, for
example, in the opening line of Virgil's Aeneid:
Arma virumque cano || Troiae qui primus ab oris
(Of arms and the man, I sing. || Who first from the
shores of Troy...)

GRAMMAR
What words come to mind when you think of
GRAMMAR?
What are some examples of GRAMMAR?

HOW would you categorize them?

GOOD
BAD
Grammar gives us a sense of
order.
If there is no grammar then
people would know less and they
would not know what they dont
know and they would just be
happy.
You could read signs and not get
hit by a car or something.
You can get a job and this is a
good thing.

Without grammar, we wouldnt be

able to properly convey our ideas and
suggestions to one another.
Without grammar, no one would be
able to understand each others
letters and speech. Everyone would
be isolated because they wont be
able to communicate.
Without grammar, there would be a
communication breakdown and we
would have to live in low life
conditions.
Without grammar, life as its self
would not function as well because
no books would be written and TV
scripts would not be written so there
would be no entertainment and
everyone would just be plain
