Tansi, (Hello), my name is Savana Walkingbear, a proud youth and citizen from Thunderchild
First Nation within the Treat Six Territory, in northwest Saskatchewan. In the past few years, I
have committed to my academic studies in pursuing my career aspirations at Lakeland
College and also in becoming a successful team leader with the Mens Volleyball team.
In March 2015, I was nominated by Canadian Colleges, selected and awarded the highest
Canada-wide national athletic and very prestigious achievement, in the All Canadian Award,
by the national CCAA ACSC Volleyball Association. I was flown to Charlottetown, Prince
Edward Island and very humbled yet excited to accept the national award. In my journey, I
have maintained my academic standing, remained close to my family Cree traditions and life
teaching and excelled in burning a trail for our younger generations, that they too, can
explore opportunities to heal, succeed in schooling and attain their personal, career and
athletic aspirations and dreams.
I am currently preparing to continue my university academic studies in 2015-2016 school
years and I have been offered several university and college opportunities to national-level
training and play in the sport of volleyball in the fall. Along with this reality, I want to continue
with my personal aspiration is to connect, as a role model in positive lifestyles and an
opportunity to conduct volleyball skills camps throughout 2015-2016 with our First Nations
youth, on or off reserve.
The following information highlights my background and can be reached personally to assist
in planning and implementing a high-level and fun volleyball skills camp in your community.
Guest Speaker - My goal is to motivate and inspire community-level Athletes and the life-long
education journey by sharing my experiences with our youth athletes and to show them how
their dreams are possible and can become a reality. I strongly believe in sharing and giving
back to our students, parents or youth in our First Nations. Often many of our Nation
communities do not get the opportunities to bring in Youth resource people and are less
fortunate to experience the success to prepare a personal goal or dream.
Volleyball Camps/Sessions: I plan to provide beginning to elite level Volleyball skills and
training camps which promote healthy lifestyle choices. To bring out in each youth the
unknown gifts and talents that dont get recognized or a chance to shine, encourage our
community to invest in our youth athletics and culture programs.
I am a proud and young Cree man. I sing both round-dance, ceremonial and powwow songs
with my brothers and cousins known as Young Thunder singers and strive to live a positive

cultural and spiritual life style, as taught by my grandparents and parents. I also can provide
teachings in singing and drumming experiences and want to encourage our younger
generations to listen and learn our culture and language from the heart. Lastly, I will promote
healthy and nutritional diet is very important in sport skills development and to community
programming to support athletic and sport programming for our youth within our communities
to live a healthier more active lifestyle.
