Allegory of the novel lord of the flies

Human is a social animal that can be described as the organism that cannot be alone.
According to this statement, it is the reason for people to gather together as a community, to
survive and be safe. In addition, people developed themselves through each period of time. They
started to create civilizations and traditions which enlarge and can be seen in modern days.
However, different places and civilizations created a different kind of people due to the teachings
that have been taught in various ways. It can depend on their ancestors, traditions, religions, or
even politics that create the distinct of beliefs. All of these ideas appear in the allegory of the
novel Lord of the flies stating that human beings can be changed by the impact of the politic
systems.
Begin with the democratic government, which represented in the Ralphs group and
symbolized the civilizations, rules, modern sciences, and intellects. However, rules can be
analyzed as one type of civilization, because people have rules to organize their society and
gather as a community. According to the quote (Golding W., 2006, p. 33), I'll give the conch to
the next person to speak, rule is signifying as the conch, show the power and authority to speak.
In the story, when somebody got the conch, everybody gathered together on the platform and
listened to that person as show in the sentence of the novel; boys were making their way toward
the platform through the hot, dumb sand (Golding W., 2006, p. 18). Besides, civilizations can be
present in the various ways in the story, for instance fire and science. People used fire to cook
their meal, as the story describes this moment in the sentence, The boys who were cooking at
the fire suddenly hauled off a great chunk of meat (Golding W., 2006, p. 149). The evolution
shows the difference between human and other mammals, because people can learn and think
beyond. This statement makes people called themselves civilize as Ralph and his group tied their
hair at the end of the story to show how civilize they are to Jack at the time. Furthermore, human
evolution generated technology and modern science as shown in the story that fire is lighted by
Piggys glasses. In consequence, Piggy and his glasses symbolize the only intellect of modern
science and reality that still has left on the island because he is the only one who still relies on
the truth when they get stuck on the island. This show in the moment, "Nobody knows where we
are," said by Piggy (Golding W., 2006, p. 34), meaning that it is hard for them to get recued

because nobody know where they are. Piggy said this when Ralph dreaming about being rescued.
So, it could be concluded that when he was in Ralphs group, he made the group became more
prosperous. However, civilizations can be destroyed as it can be created due to the instinct of
human nature.
According to Jacks behaviors, it can be symbolized as a side of human nature which
expressed in term of survival and natural selection. He and his tribe focused on living than
surviving as in the novel that Jack always continuously repeats the sentence (Golding W., 2006,
p. 111); we need meat, along the story. The difference between these two words can be
described in term of Ralphs group and Jacks tribe. Ralphs group focused on keep the fire
lighted and being rescued while Jack focused on having meat. So, it can be concluded that
Ralphs group wants to survive and rescued from the island, but Jacks tribe was trying to adjust
and living on the island. However, Adaptation has both pros and cons, because most of the
reason for animal to adapt themselves is to exist in the world. In this way, it pulled out the
instinct or nature which can turn into violence due to the natural selection. Moreover, the
selection of nature will force organisms to compete each other and left the only the strongest one
who can fight and protect themselves well. According to the event when Ralph blamed at Jack in
the story; "You let the fire go out." (Golding W., 2006, p.69 ), when he forgot to keep the fire
going, this might be the reason for Jack to create the new group because he felt unsafe and
useless when he was in Ralphs group. In this way, his attempt and pride were destroyed which
turned the sensation of disgraceful to violence. This could be the purpose of making the tribe to
be cruel and strict because he wanted to hide his mistakes and weakness, same as the reason that
he painted mask on. Even though that this might not be a good way to control people, but it is the
good way for Jack to show his power otherwise Ralph will have power more than him. Further, it
is also a good way to make the boys followed, because his intention is strong and easily makes
people afraid of him as the novel expressed the most brutal in the sentence; The newly beaten
and untied Wilfred was sniffing noisily in the background (Golding W., 2006, p. 160).
However, only power and fear were not enough to create an absolute control on the boys due to
another power still remain.
The selection of nature never left the weak one exist, thus stating could be the reason for
Jack to kill Ralph and the boys start to trust their instinct of survival due to the nature of human.

This could be because Ralph has different intention that might be harm to Jack, so his instinct
and nature forced him to compete with Ralph. According to the quote in the novel Lord of the
flies (Golding W., 2006, p. 186), Piggy was dead, and the conch smashed to powder, show the
destroying of Ralphs-group civilization. Piggy who symbolize as the modern science, was dead,
and the conch were destroyed. In this way, it makes Jack got all of the power and left Ralph
nothing. In addition, all of the boys turned to Jacks tribe due to the instinct of survival and
starting to hunt Ralph. In the story when Samneric pointed Ralphs refuge because they were
afraid of Jacks punishment, it is shown the side of human nature that even though Samneric
were with Ralph before, but they still tell where Ralph is because their life are more significant.
However, it doesnt mean that when people turned back into their nature and that is no way for
them to get back. Most of the people pulled the nature out just because they want to survive.
Therefore, the reminder could be the solution to recall someone who is forgetting who they are.
In this case, the officer navy could be the best example to explain the situation when human
nature were hid again and human nurture comes out, as in a sentence that said infected by that
emotion, the other little boys began to shake and sob too (Golding W., 2006, p. 202). Hence, at
the end of the story when the boys met the navy officer who dressed well and civilize, they start
to embarrassed and sorrowed with what they have done. That is the sign when humans nurture
comes back, because nature doesnt have a sense of moral or guiltiness.
Human beings depend on the effected of environment, which can be based on what they
have been taught or learned. However, at the end, the same thing that happened to everyone is
their nature pulls out when they have to protect themselves due to the instinct of survival. Even
though that sometimes it will be immoderate, but most of the people still have a sense of
culpability. That is the reason why humans are different than other animals.
