OES Managing Noise at Work Campaign (Q3, 2013)

The Campaign Aims to:

Prevent damage to hearing by increasing awareness to the effects of exposure to


noise.
Introduce regular noise survey on all Rigs
Highlight the importance of an audiometric test
Encourage the use of ear plugs/muffs
Promote a culture where personnel intervene when colleagues are exposing
themselves to noise.
Ensure availability of calibrated noise level meters

The campaign will be structured to ensure a clear briefing and message to everyone and
create an opportunity to share learning. This will be achieved through the use of campaign
tools.

The Campaign Tools


The campaign will use a variety of delivery methods:
Presentations
Tool box talks
Posters (laminated)
DVD

Campaign Plan

OIM/Management staff to launch campaign during EHS meeting


RSTCs deliver Noise at Work tool box talk to Rig personnel and EHSSQ Officer does
same with Warehouse personnel
Meeting attendees will be shown DVD on Noise at Work
Play DVD on TV in reception at Base Office and Rig recreation rooms
RSTC gives demonstration on how to wear earplugs
OIMs to ensure Noise Survey is carried out (locations & equipment)
Rig Managers to ensure audiometric tests is conducted for personnel at risk.

Monitoring requirements:

Confirm sound level meters are available and calibrated


Review results from noise surveys
Check EHS meeting and toolbox talk attendance sheets for compliance

Measures of success:

Noise survey completed on all Rigs and recommendations implemented


All Rigs have completed audiometric test for all personnel at risk
Best practice identified
