Yothed L fle» ufer[20/5— (VATISH KATHERIA) EC-1984-88 Batch Dear Reader, If there is one thing you can take at any moment, it is initiative. You can take it without being told, and that's the best part about it. Initiative helps you set a goal, and along with hard work, it can help you tread the path towards the goal, and help you reach there. Anna Pavlova , the famous Russian Ballerina, once said that, " Success depends in a very large measure upon individual initiative and exertion, and cannot be achieved except by a dint of hard work". Itis also true that long-lasting success comes through sustained learning, persistent effort, and willingness to learn. Ask yourself the simple question; What should I do today to move closer to my goal? This session is fruitful for us as companies are visiting our college and hiring ample amount of students which is comparatively better than last few year. Our Training and Placement Cell is working hard. Beside this we have generous support of our notable alumni; some of them were present in convergence 2014. This was held on 28 December that was basically for 1989 batch, we enjoyed, learned, shared many ideas and memories with our alumni and Convergence 2014 made alumni-student bond stronger than it was earlier. It is time for our Annual fest ENCORE which is going to be held on 17" to 20" March . So. participate deliberately and make it better than better. We are highly indebted to our Director Prof. A. S. Vidyarthi sir, Or. V.K. Singh Sir (Faculty Adviser) and Mr. Mohnish sir (Faculty Adviser) for their continuous supervision and generous support. We are also much thankful to our authors who have given articles for first edition of “ABHIVYAKT!”. “Team ABHIVYAKTI “ welcomes your suggestions and feedback at emagazineietl ail,com or btto://eabhivvakti.in . Understanding the importance of cleanliness in day to day life and in resonance with the initiative taken by the Government of India, students showed their commitment towards maintaining a clean environment in the college. f On 19" Nov 2014, the day when the institute completed its 30 successful years, the e-magazine society, Team Abhivyakti, took the initiative to organize the event. The cleanliness drive started from the Temple inside the college campus, progressed to the hostel area, lecture theatres, classrooms and ended at college canteen i Students worked enthusiastically from 8 a.m to 2 p.m. The event was guided by TeamAbhivyakti's Faculty Advisor, Prof. V.K. Singh, ISSAC Chairman Prof. Amrika Singh and Dr. S.P. Shukla along with Director Prof. D.N. Kakkar and Prof. SP Tripathi, HOD CSE Dept. They guided and motivated the students with their experiences. The event was mainly organized by a group of 10-12 third year students and about 200 students participated in the success of the event. But Team Abhivyakti’s Coordinator, Kouts Kumar had different things to say. He said “It’s nota practice. Awareness is essential. We wanted to reach out to cover Engineering Chowraha till PuraniaChowraha, to spread awareness about cleanliness among people but due to our busy schedule and upcoming semester exams, we had to keep it short”. The students nominated other government colleges of UPTU like HBTI Kanpur and KNIT Sultanpur via a video message circulated on social media, to carry out the cleanliness drive in their college also. All in all it was a great day where juniors, seniors worked alike and came together to make our college a better place. Convergence'14 “Those truly linked don’t need correspondence when they meet together after many years , their friendship is as true as ever."rightly said by Deng Min Dao. Convergence 2K14 held on 28th of December 2014 was a day for the 1989 batch students to retrospect. It was a day to cherish the countless memories reminiscence of the glorious days of togetherness and celebrate their silver jubilee. Prof. |.K Bhatt who served in the capacity of lecturer and reader at IET during the years 1984-1994 graced the occasion as the chief guest. 4 Prof. S.P Tripathi, Prof V.K singhwere present as the guest of honour. The event commenced with the auspicious ‘lightening of the lamp' by the chief guest and the guests of honour. The professors shared their experience as being the teaching staff to those 1989 batch students and recounting those memories their eyes welled up with tears. i The alumni too recalled those good old days and here are a few Ff excerpts: an alumnus Vijay Maurya, a senior consultant, TCS, said "In our time, there were only four rooms in which classes took place. We witnessed coming up of the entire college building. For most of the IETians ‘lambookadhaba' on the Sitapur highway is unforgettable. It was open round the clock and served us tea, soft drinks ete." Another alumnus, Deepak Singh Karki who is in hospitality business shared with us “our batch was the first batch to have campus placement. Only five of us including myself got a job in HCL." Dinesh Yadav, another alumnus, additional superintendent, trans- gomtilucknow, delightfully said," IET has not only produced technocrats but also bureaucrats who are on important positions all over the country." The razzmatazz of the event was the performances by a few current students of IET- Anubhav (final year), Ayushi (ei, final year) and Aayush(2nd yr,cs) and they did set the aura of the evening with their amazing singing and dance performances respectively. Even the alumni and their family didnt let this opportunity to celebrate elude and did shake a leg. No stone was left unturned by them to make that day a memorable one. The convergence'14 did bring a good fortune for the current and also the upcoming batches of IET and gave a head-start for the setting up of ‘incubation center’ in the campus premises and it was declared that from henceforth convergence would be celebrated on ....of November. The biting winter cold did play a spoilsport and prevented many from attending this reunion. Also this convergence couldn't have been possible without the efforts of the coordinating team headed by Mr. Hari Om Sharma comprising of. Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan In the last few months, these three words have stirred many minds. Celebrities like Sania Mirza and Amir Khan have wielded jhadoos for the awakening of common people. Like every social movement, this movement has started at a galloping pace and has been able to open up the minds of a huge lot of people. India—where still lakhs of people defecate in the open, where plots and parks are dustbins— is hoping for a change, a change that will provide for a decent civic life. Schools and colleges have started cleaning their premises. Government offices have started cleaning the spits. Societies are cleaning the litter in their parks and plots. People have started picking rubbish from the roadside and throwing them in the dustbins. But wait—are we doing the right thing? You might answer in affirmative. But | am afraid you're wrong. Throwing rubbish and cn then picking it up—doesn’t that sound insane? It's just like breaking your wife’s head and e then buying a plaster for it. Instead of cleaning the litter, can’t we stop littering? Instead of cleaning the red spit * marks from the walls, can't we stop making it? Instead of cleaning parks and plots, can’t we find a suitable place to dump our garbage? These questions need to be answered. We have seen masses of people participating in the campaign. But not just this involvement of mass, we need to look at a wider perspective. We are the land of Harappa and Mohenjodaro—known for great drainage system. Ironically today, and sadly too, most of the cities lack efficient sewage treatment plants. Millions of rupees have been drained into various river cleaning projects without convincing results. But before concluding that the officials are to be blamed for this, let us peep into our daily life, Who bothers to search for a dustbin? Who would keep the packets of snacks to throw them later in the dustbin rather than throwing them on the road from their cars? It is time to recognize our duties. It is the time to remove the dirt off the mind. Rather than wielding jhadoos on the roads one should clean the dirt off the mind and we will automatically have clean cities. - Mayank Gupta Mechanical Engg. Second year MIT Researchers Water Based Fabrication For Natural Biodegradable 3D Printing Although we have mentioned its benefits so many times in the past, while 3D printing is substantially cutting back on waste within the manufacturing industry, it’s actually creating hundreds of tons of waste annually within the consumer segment of the market. The majority of desktop 3D printers you will find in the homes of individuals rely primarily on thermoplastics, many of which negatively affect the environment in numerous ways. In the long run as the popularity of 3D printers continue to soar, there will be mounting concems about the piles of discarded thermoplastics being sent to landfills worldwide. Because of these concems, solutions are already being researched, with more environmentally friendly materials already starting to enter the market. Researchers Laia Mogas-Soldevila and Jorge Duro-Royo at the Mediated Matter Group, led by Associate Prof. Neri Oxman at the MIT Media Lab, are looking to take things approach to natural biodegradable 3D printing techniques. In a process they call “Water-Based Robotic Fabrication,” the team has set out to utilize natural materials in a drive to enable environmentally friendly, but also perhaps more robust methods of 3D printing. step further. They have been working on quite an interesting Working with a group of natural polymers called polysaccharides — which include cellulose, starch, hemicelluloses, chitin, and chitosan (created via the deacetylation of chitin), and are easy and inexpensive to obtain — the MIT team has been able to make substantial progress on their ambitious goals. Polysaccharides, while possessing characteristics including structural and functional diversity and strength, have been shown to have the ability to replace traditional synthetic materials within the additive manufacturing process. The Water-Based Robotic Fabrication process relies on biodegradable hydrogel composites which are mixed together prior to extrusion and are capable of constructing large-scale 3D objects. The natural composite materials are able to be manually mixed prior to their entrance into the volume-driven extruder, or mixed as needed within the machine via the nozzle. An example of a mixture would be chitosan and sodium alginate at various concentrates. Since the control of the extrusion process is in the hands of the researchers, they were able to create a variety of composites without relying on the special formulations which are required with other traditional 3D printing technologies such as SLS, SLA, or FDM. Various natural polysaccharides are extruded into a single nozzle, mixing the materials as they are placed onto the build platform. 15 gram chiiosan-hased composile ts dissolved in 200ml of water over 20 minutes al room temperature. The printer itself consists of a custom made multi-chamber extrusion system and also custom made nozzles, which were attached to a Kuka KR AGILUS robotic arm. The arm has a maximum reach of 1101mm and is capable of moving along a 6-axis setup. The total build envelope of the robotic arm printer is 1000mm L x 500mm W. ‘With this method, once objects are fabricated, put to use, and no longer are needed, instead of sending them off to a landfill, they can simply be submerged into water, and broken down. Conversely, they can also be chemically stabilized via various agents and submerged in water without any degradation at all. Researchers also have worked on ways to provide shape shifting characteristics to these printed objects when they are introduced to water, or even objects which release nutrients while they are being broken down. ‘The number of applicable uses for such materials within the additive manufacturing space could be staggering. Researchers were able to create 3D printable natural composites which are superior to the synthetic materials commonly used in mass manufacturing. There is still much research to be done before these types of biodegradable materials are able to be used in the creation of everyday products, but that time is certainly getting closer. This is an ongoing project, one which the group at MIT Media Lab are diligently working on, Currently they are developing techniques to provide a more capable inter-nozzle mixing system, seeking to use a helical screw instead of the static system they currently are working with, Additionally they are building a pneumatic extrusion system which uses air pressure to power the release of the materials in order to replace the current system which is volume-driven, relying on stepper motors. ‘The Mediated Matter Group has told 3DPrint.com that substantial progress is being made, as the team is currently improving this technology, and intends to release a video of a full 3D printed structure. The Mediated Matter Group would like to acknowledge the TBA-21 Academy's (Thyssen-Bomemisza Art Contemporary) support with an ongoing group project and research platform focusing on biodegradable additive manufacturing Let’s hear your thoughts on this incredible work being done at MIT. For the betterment of technologies and facilities in railways Government increased the passenger fair (although impact is not much), it shows the motives of decreasing railways deficits and betterment of current facilities. Current plans of “Make in India” is focused towards the resurgent growth of manufacturing sector, and this is essential from the development point of view because in developed country manufacturing sector always has been the baseline of growth, and after a time there comes saturation in service led growth , now service sector contributes nearly 59% of GDP and manufacturing sector contributes 27% of GDP, and after being agrarian Figure 1: Sectorial contribution to GDP in India (1950-2010) 70 Sector contribution to GDP (24) oo Services, — 5» so “0 20 2» 10 Agriculture Industry, ° Source: Table 3 in GDP at Factor Cost at 2004-05 Prices, Share to Total GDP Data-book, Planning Commission, Government of India (July 3 2014), pages 3-4. I personally think that Government is copying the growth model of west and many developed countries, but one should keep this in mind that India is highly diverse country in world and it cannot compared with any country in the cultural diversities and people here, one can only compare it only on the behalf of percentage growth in GDP, Capital formation, factory output ete. I mean to say that we can compare it with other country only on the behalf of economic output or capital gain, otherwise comparing India with other is abominable task. Initially the contribution of agriculture in Indian GDP was high it was nearly 50% in Nehru era but after implementation of Nehru and Mahalanobis theory of growth the share of agriculture has declined significantly (see Figure 3) and share of capital goods has increased in industry but it was not sufficient and this was unable to take industrial growth at peak, as of now GDP due to industrial output is nearly 27%, after 2010 it haven’t increased yet. As we all know that India has been based on agrarian economy, its 56.6% of workforce is involved in it and this workforce is unskilled and uneducated, let’s think about the scenario where we are focusing towards manufacturing Adarsh Km. It is not enough to tend a garden; the plants must be encouraged to bloom and emit fragrance. In the very same way, it is not enough to educate students to make them knowledgeable, it is necessary to ensure that they are put on the right path for becoming valuable citizens of the world. Placement being the one of the most important objective of professional education, the activity should be concentrated right from the first year itself. Aptitude Tests, Group Discussions, Personal Interviews and Personality Development workshop give students exposure to various requirements of industries and train them in every aspect. The Training and Placement Cell should ensure that each and every ward of the college gets an opportunity to be selected for placement in some of the best companies of the nation and abroad. They are trained and groomed to face the ordeals arising out of selection exams and grilling interviews. Care should be taken to ensure that equal opportunity is given to all. The Training and Placement Cell at IET Lucknow works with these aims and objectives. We always have a great campus placement record. Our students have secured challenging and highly paid positions in top ranking companies/organizations. Their abilities are well attested by the excellent reports from the recruiting companies.
