Overall Comments:
Jessica Boutilier has shown to be an effective, conscientious and dedicated teacher. Her lesson in both written and oral delivery was clear, concise and focused. The students were involved, interactive and
learning throughout the whole lesson. Jessica managed resources and plans with positive goal setting expectations for her students. She has just returned from teaching in Nicaragua and has quickly caught
up. Jessica will be a very welcomed teacher to any school.

Jessica created a positive environment for learning for the Grade 7 students in the Language class I
observed. She showed commitment to teaching through her positive and respectful interactions with
the students, and by continuously seeking out the most appropriate and effective instructional
strategies for each learner. She supported all learners and challenged their thinking through the use of
open ended prompts.

Jessica actively and professionally assumed her role and duties as defined by the Faculty of
Education. She engaged in ongoing professional conversations, worked collaboratively with her
Associate Teacher and completed assigned duties. Her Practice Teaching binder was up to date,
detailed and organized.

become familiar with instructional strategies that enhance learning, engaging in thoughtful and
thorough reflections of her practice and actively seeking and accepting feedback and advice.

Jessica was able to describe what the students will know by selecting appropriate expectations. The
content of her lesson was extensively detailed and concepts, facts and skills were logically sequenced.
The content of the lesson was directly related to the expectation. The learners prior learning
experiences were outlined and individualized where necessary. The classroom was organized and
appropriate resources were created, available and distributed for the lesson. Assessment was related
to the expectations. The selected teaching/learning strategies were meaningful and relevant and
included visual, auditory and kinesthetic instruction. Jessica created a succinct consolidation that
reviewed the content developed in the lesson and selected an application task that allowed all students
to apply the content.

The introductory activity activated prior knowledge and stimulated a high degree of active student
involvement. Technology was seamlessly integrated for instruction. Clarity was given to the whole
group when needed and individual support was provided throughout the lesson. Creative and
collaborative instructional strategies including auditory, visual and kinesthetic modalities facilitated the
learning. Consolidation of the learning was demonstrated in collaborative group work and individually.
The students engaged in the application with understanding and ease. Effective assessment and
recording devices were used to monitor and track student learning. The lesson was confidently paced
and organized to allow for a variety of learning needs.

Jessica demonstrates a warm, friendly, and supportive manner with her students, respectfully listening
to what they have to say. She expertly engaged students through using a variety of questioning
techniques and visuals that encouraged a range of levels of thinking. She promoted a risk free learning
environment by valuing thinking, questioning and listening to one another that in turn encouraged a
high level of pupil participation and responsibility. Jessica demonstrated an understanding of
classroom management strategies that ensured on task behaviour. She recognized and reinforced
appropriate behaviour and often praised students individually and after answering a question.
