Science- Five Senses
Pre-K
15-25 minutes (depending on how many of the bags students
have time to do)
We have five senses: see, hear, taste, touch, and smell.
Our senses are always working.
Sometimes we use more than one sense and less of
another sense.
What are our five senses?
How can we use our five senses?
Are we always using all of our senses at once?
3.1a.9: Use the five senses as tools with which to
observe, collect information, classify, describe and
solve problems.
Students will help to complete the stick figure model by
placing the correct body parts that align with the
senses on the figure 5/5 times. (should place each body
part correctly)
Students will use the application of three senses (smell,
hear, touch), to identify mystery objects inside of 2-3
bags.
Students will show understanding of all five senses by
completing the review worksheet with 80% accuracy
(8/10 are correct).

Activating Prior Knowledge
Subject will be introduced by asking students if they have
ever heard of our five senses? Where did they hear it? Do
you know any of our senses?
Students will be invited to come and sit on the floor in
front of the board to listen to the story.
Read, My Five Senses by Aliki.
During the introduction using the book, we will pause and
practice identifying these body parts and what we do
with them.
Connections will be made to senses and body parts.
Hook/Lead-In/Anticipatory Set
After reading story, I will draw a stick figure without,
eyes, ears, mouth, nose and hands, on the board
I will ask children to think about the important features
that the person is missing? What did we just talk about?
If needed, I will prompt them to say that the figure needs
eyes, and continue through to add ears, nose, hands and
mouth.
I will explain that we have five senses to learn about the
world around us- seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, and
feeling.
Transition
Students will be given instructions for the activity.
When instructed, students will move to appropriate table
they are assigned to based on color of their name tagblue, yellow or red table
o BLUE- Chase, Sophia, and Dante
o YELLOW- Kaylee and Domenick
o RED- Lucy, Amelia, and Drew
