GENERAL LEARNER OBJECTIVES

Students will:
1. Identify sources of light, describe the interaction of light with
different materials, and infer the pathway of a light beam.

SPECIFIC LEARNER OBJECTIVES

Students will:
1. Distinguish transparent materials from opaque materials by
determining if light passes through them and by examining their
shadows.
2. Classify materials as transparent, partly transparent (translucent) or
opaque.
3. Recognize that light can be reflected and that shiny surfaces, such as
polished metals and mirrors, are good reflectors.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students will:
1. Prepare signs for a Light and Shadows mobile.
2. Create a Light and Shadows mobile using opaque, transparent,
translucent, and reflective materials.
3. Display their mobiles for others to see.

Asking students about my mobile the objects I
used and my signs
Body
Plans for mobiles/Expectations/Procedure
Lastly, the teacher will write on the board the
procedure of assembling their mobiles. This
procedure is:
1. Create signs/labels for the mobile, opaque
object, transparent object, translucent object,
and reflective object.
2. Show signs/labels to Miss Pastink in order to
get ribbon
3. Assemble signs onto mobile
4. Assemble objects onto mobile
5. clean up area (word search if done)
6. Presentation of mobiles
Students will be asked using the thumbs up/down
method if they understand the expectations during
the lesson. They will also be asked to repeat back
the procedure steps so that the teacher can tell if
they understand what is expected out of them.
Mobile assembly
During this time, students can sit in their desks to
assemble their mobiles. The teacher will cut and
provide the strings for each mobile as well as
circulate during the assembling of mobiles. Students
must assemble their signs and labels before moving
on to assembling their actual mobiles.
There will be a criteria hand-out that each student
must check off once each object is added onto their
mobile (a checklist). This will ensure accountability.
The teacher will also use this hand-out to mark the
students.
Students can work together to allow for some who
are struggling and others who are grasping the
material well.
Closure
The materials students choose to use for their
mobile will illustrate how well they understand the
topics. They will be marked on their objects and if
they are correct for each category (opaque,
transparent, translucent, and reflective).
Students must clean up any mess they have made
