2nd Teaching Practice/School Visit - 17/11/14

Dear Journal
This lesson today took effort and lots of energy because I wanted to create
one where students would have to paraphrase what they were learning. They were
placed into groups of two to complete an online research. The students worked
togeth0er tremendously. They were able to identify and discover for themselves the
particular topic.
As a teacher we must keep in mind that some students work at a faster rate
than others so we must prepare our lessons so that in the event a student or a
group completes the task before the others accommodations must be made for
them so that they are occupied with work. Also accommodation must be made to
facilitate students who prefer to complete a given activity orally.
In addition to this, our students must possess adequate research skills to be
able to identify what is required when they are doing any research, so we must
facilitate and educate them on research skills to get the best out of our students in
this lesson. In doing this even we teachers are being taught research skills in this
programme.
Today, I was able to transition my fourth form students from lower order
thinking skills(LOTS) into Higher order thinking skills(HOTS) making them more
responsible for their learning. It is a step by step approach and I am simply as some
would say a guide on the side. There is a famous proverb that says the journey of
a thousand miles begins with a single step, I believe the journey to becoming a
better teacher has begun.
