What is it?

What We Did

It is a free program for families or schools that rely on property taxes

and grant funding to support the Tech Center (Kent Career Technical
Center. n.d.).. The program is for high school junior and senior
students from all schools in the district. It is to prepare the students
for college, certifications, internship, apprenticeship, technical
training and a rewarding career (Kent Career Technical Center. n.d.).

Evidence Based Knowledge

While passing on our knowledge of basic skills we were sure to use the
most up to date evidence based practice. This ensures they learn the
skill properly and therefore practice the skill based on most recent
evidence. We also used evidence based practice when explaining to
students how certain careers they had chosen are tied together with a
patients care. We gave examples of everyday evidence based care
that may be tied in with the career the student may have chosen.

Assist with skills

Participate in final skill check offs (transfers,
vital signs, etc)
Evaluate presentations of career paths
Contribute to the growth and self-development
in relation to the profession of nursing

Theory
One theory we used was
Katherine Kolbacas comfort
theory. This theory is based on
the concepts of patient comfort.
By helping these students learn
basic care techniques it helps
enforce this comfort theory.
