Overview
Inthislesson,studentswillbediscussingcommonphrasesandtermsusedwhennavigating
agrocerystore,aswellascompletingasimulationofnavigatingagrocerystoreusingEnglish
equivalentphrasesandterms.Studentswillreviewperformanceandlessonmaterialwith
discussionsummarizingthesimulation,aswellascompletingaselfevaluationworksheet.

DescriptionofLearners
ThislessonisdesignedspecificallyforlearnerswhoareofHispanicdescentandareEnglish
LanguageLearners.Genderdistributionintheclassisequal.Ithasbeentakentomindthat
themajorityoftheEnglishLanguageLearnersintheclassarerecentimmigrantstotheU.S.
fromLatinAmerica.Also,ithasbeentakentoaccountthattheELLstudentshavebeen
raisedinpredominantlySpanishspeakinghomesandhaverelativelylowEnglishspeaking
andunderstandingabilities.

IntendedLearningGoals
Theintentofthelessonistohavestudentsaccomplishthefollowinggoals:
