Essential Question: How have the greatest peace leaders influenced the world?
Working Thesis: The greatest leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela have
influenced the world in a positive way.
Refined Thesis: World peace leaders such as MLK and Nelson Mandela have influenced the
world with their peaceful protesting, their powerful speeches, and their positions they gained in
their country.

This article is about the I Have a Dream speech by Martin Luther King, Jr. On August
28, 1963, nearly a quarter million people showed up at the District of Columbia for the March on
Washington for jobs and freedom. This shows how great of a leader MLK was to the people. It
was not just black African Americans who showed up, also whites and many other races that live
in the immigrated country of the United States of America. His famous quote, I have a dream
my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of

their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today! Martin Luther King Jr.
Gained lots of attention of the American people and should be taught to the American people
today. It should be taught so people realize that we are all human and that we all should have
human rights and it shouldnt be judged off of the color of their skin, the dryness of their hair, or
even their culture.

When Mohandas Gandhi arrived in South Africa he was appealed by the discrimination
he experienced as an Indian immigrant in South Africa. Gandhi was mistreated on a train to
Pretoria for refusing his seat to a European passenger this was a turning point for Mohandas
Gandhi. Hes had enough and wanted to make a change, so he did. In the famous Salt March in
April-May 1930, thousands of Indians followed Gandhi from Ahmadabad to the Arabian Sea.
The march resulted in the arrest of nearly 60,000 people, including Gandhi himself. They were
arrested under the act of civil disobedience.

Nelson Mandela is an idol for many people around the world because, of the great things
he accomplished. Mandela was sentenced to a life for treason because, he was part of a peaceful
school protest. He thought everyone deserves the right to freedom, white and black. He told
people that if hatred can be learned than love for sure could be taught. He is most famous for
becoming the first democratic president in South Africa. His main goal was to dismantle
apartheid in South Africa. Mandela became a leader of the group called African National
Congress. He stayed active in the organization while he was jailed for 27 years. On February, 11

1990, South African President Frederik Willem de Klerk freed Anti-Apartheid activist Nelson
Mandela. He was freed under the conditions that he renounced violence.
