Student Teaching
Classroom Management Plan
1 Research and Theories:
Writers Mascolol and Fisher explained the concept of constructivism
clearly, Constructivism is the philosophical and scientific position that
knowledge arises through a process of active construction". As an
urban educator, the basic theory of teaching that I exemplify is
constructivism. Constructivism is based on the premise that we all
construct our own perspective of the world through individual
experiences and schema. Thus, a constructivist educator attempts to
connect what students already know, to the new information presented
to them in the classroom. Constructivism also focuses on preparing
learners to be able to problem solve in situations that they may
encounter in life. Constructivism is a student centered theory in which
children are active learners as they connect new information to prior
knowledge and continually construct meaning.
My plan supports my teaching and learning theory because I plan on
incorporating group work, using KWL charts, make personal
connections to books, choose the books that theyre reading and topics
for writing.
2 Elements of the Plan:
There are many strategies that I will implement to build a
community of learners.
*First off, I want to create a safe environment for my students
where they feel accepted and belonged. I will do this by
educating my students on the cruelty, immorality, and
unkindness of bullying (through showing them YouTube videos
and reading articles to them about bullying) in hopes of creating
a benevolent environment within my classroom, where student
feel safe, accepted, and in high spirits. I will make students
aware that bullying will not be tolerated and that there will be
consequences to any acts of such. I will encourage my students
to accept and respect one anothers differences and realize that
though they may all have different capabilities, appearances,
beliefs and cultures, etc, they all have a heart that wants to be

loved and accepted. Teaching children how to live amongst one

another is one of the most imperative components of life. I will
lead the class in icebreakers during the beginning of the school
year; this will give students a fun opportunity to get to know one
anothers names.
* I will encourage my students to ask questions, and make them
aware that making mistakes is quite alright; I think that this will
motivate students to continue to persevere when they are
confused or challenged.
*I will encourage and expect student participation and active
engagement in the classroom. An imperative goal of mine is to
make my lessons more student centered.
*I will let my students know that I believe each one of them has
the potential to succeed, and set high expectations for all
students while providing them with the proper academic and
social support.

The following is a diagram of my ideal classroom. I would like my

desk to be in the front of the classroom in a corner; I think this
will give me a view of all my students from there. The classroom
architect application that I used did not give me the option to
add desks to my floor plan; I would like my students desks to be
in rows in the middle of the classroom. I also would like another
corner of the classroom to be the reading corner, where the
bookshelves are, along with beanie chairs that students can sit
on during silent reading time.

There are many accommodations that I will provide for a diverse

group of learners. For students who may work slower than their
classmates; I will present a smaller amount of work at one time
and allow for extra time on completing assignments or tests. I
will also break testing over several days. I will also give students
opportunities to work in a small groups or to work one-on-one
with the teacher or teacher aid. I will provide audio taped
lectures or books to auditory learners, while providing visual
learners with diagram copies of lecture notes. I will provide
students with large print books when necessary. I will reduce the
difficulty of assignments when necessary as well. When possible,
I will allow answers to be given orally, and will allow student(s) to
use a word processor for written work when appropriate. I will
provide students with accommodating IEPs with copies of class
notes.

Rules, consequences, routines, transitions, and procedures:

Rules: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe and Ready to

Learn.
Consequences: Verbal warning, second verbal warning,
modification, (have students fill out a sheet writing what
they did wrong and what they will do differently next time),
loss of recess/lunch detention, call home, office referral.
Rewards:
Hand out 15 tickets to each student Monday morning. I will
collect tickets back from students throughout the week if they
are misbehaving. On Friday, I will choose 7 student names at
random (from a cup of sticks) those students will get to shop
at our classroom store for goodies in exchange for their
tickets.
I have also created a little trash bin that is labeled blurt alert.
Each time a student blurts something out loud without having
their hand raised, will have to put a ticker in the blurt alert
trash can. I hope that this will be an incentive that will
encourage students to raise their hands instead of blurting
out loud
Also, at the end of each school day, I will recognize one or two
students who I have noticed being hard working and
responsible/respectful all day. I will enter those students in a
raffle and send a certificate home with them. Every other
Friday, I will draw a students name from the raffle; that
student and a friend of their choice will get to have lunch and
dessert with me in the classroom during their lunch period
(my treat!). This will hopefully be an incentive to students to
always be on their best behavior. The certificates are also a
great way for me to show parents my interest in their childs
performance
Routines: Arrival, Greetings, Hang up coats and backpacks,
Attendance, Journal Entry, Check math homework,
Reading, Writing, Lunch, Star of the week, Special, Math,
Recess, Social Studies/Science, Dismissal.
Transitions: I will proclaim- 1, 2, 3 all eyes on me, to which
students will always reply- 1, 2 eyes on you. I also plan on
using music during transitions. For instance, during a
transition into Science, I will play the Bill Nye the Science
Guy Theme Song. This will be cue for students to return to

their seats, get a pencil handy, turn their voices off, and
prepare to learn.
Procedures:
*Morning: Students will enter classroom quietly, hang up
coats and backpacks, make lunch choice, sharpen pencils,
have homework out and complete, and sit in their seats.
*Warm up: Students will begin journal entry, as shown on
the board, first thing each morning.
*Absent work: Each student will have a folder with their
name on it, in a blue bin. When a student is absent, they
will check their folder when they return to school to pick up
the work that they missed.
*Late Assignments: Students will be able to turn work in for
up to two days passed their due date, but with the
consequence of a lowered grade (10% deducted for one
day late, 20% deducted for two days late).
*Lining up: Straight line, Hands at our side, Voices Silent,
Eyes Forward.
*Dismissal:
*Students will make sure their homework is written in
their agendas.
*Students will pack up all supplies needed to go
home.
*Students will remain seated as they wait for the bell.
The teacher will dismiss the class after the bell rings
if all students are seated.

Roles:
My role as a teacher will be to keep my students safe, to use a
variety of ways to educate them to the best of my ability, to
create a warm and welcoming environment, to be respectful,
understanding, prepared, patient, passionate, and professional.
The roles of students will be to be respectful, responsible, safe,
and ready to learn.
I will communicate with parents in many of ways including email, phone, and a classroom website. I plan on making calls to
parents not only about something negative that may have
happened concerning their child, but to make positive calls as
well. I also plan on collecting all parents e-mail to remind them
of certain events going on at school (for instance a field trip). I
also plan on setting up a classroom website where the agenda
for each day is posted. I will involve parents/caregivers by

hosting Muffins for Moms and Donuts for Dad a couple of times
a year, where moms/dads will be invited to the classroom for
muffins and donuts. I will also invite parents to visit and read a
book to the class, or tell the class about their profession. I will
also invite parents to chaperone on fieldtrips and to spend
holiday parties with us as well. Each Friday, I will send home a
newsletter with students summarizing to parents what we
learned that past week (along with pictures of students) and
what the next week holds.
