SED Basic Standards Quality Drive

On the directive of the Secretary Schools, the SED is launching a Quality Drive
for ensuring students from Class 1-3 achieve proficiency in Basic Standards.
Initially, the drive will focus only on Class 2-3.
Basic standards to be taught during drive
The drive will focus on students in Class 1-3 achieving basic standards in
English, Urdu and Math. This will be in addition to the regular school
curriculum being taught in each class. The drive will focus on Class 2-3 from
April 2015, and expand to Class 1-3 in November 2015. These standards will
include:

Read letters (both small and capital)


Write letters (both small and capital)
Read simple one and two syllable words (e.g.

bat, cat, hat)


English

Write simple one and two syllable words (e.g.

bat, cat, hat)


Match pictures and words
Oral communication and completion of simple

sentences
Read numbers 0-99
Write numbers 0-99
Single digit addition

Math

Single digit subtraction


Double digit addition
Double digit subtraction
Multiplication and tables
Read letters (all 38 letters and combinations

with do chashmi hay)


Write letters (all 38 letters and combinations

with do chashmi hay)


Urdu

Jore tore
Read simple words (e.g. sach, raat, baat)
Write simple words1 (e.g. sach, raat, baat)
Match pictures and words

Oral communication and completion of simple

sentences

Guidelines for Teachers, AEOs and DTEs


SED has prepared detailed guidelines to aid teachers, AEOs and DTEs in
teaching basic standards to students. The guidelines are being communicated
herewith and should be circulated to all teachers, AEOs and DTEs participating
in the Quality Drive.
