Kingdom Animalia
The kingdom Animalia includes all 1.2
million species of animals on earth, 950,000 of
which are insects! All animals are made of
many cells. Each of those cells has a nucleus
and membrane bound organelles, but none are
surrounded by a cell wall. All animals must
consume food to gain energy, usually by eating
plants or other animals. Animals are the most
diverse of kingdoms living anywhere where
food is available to them.

Name some
Examples

Kingdom Plantae
The kingdom Plantae includes all species of
plants on earth. All plants are made of many
cells. All plants cells contain a nucleus. All
plants cells are surrounded by a cell wall made
of the carbohydrate cellulose. All plants gain
energy by converting sunlight into food. Plants
have adapted to live both on land and in water
and fill the role as the major producer for
consumers on land.

Kingdom Plantae
They undergo Photosynthesis
Take in sunlight, CO2 and water.
Let out O2.

Kingdom Plantae
Examples :
Trees
flowering plants
mosses
ferns.

Kingdom Fungi
The kingdom fungi include molds,
mushrooms and other decomposers. Most fungi
are made of many cells, but a few species are
made of only one cell. All fungi contain cells
that have a nucleus and membrane bound
organelles. All fungi have cells surrounded by a
cell wall which is made of the carbohydrate
chitin. All fungi consume food to gain energy;
usually from dead or decaying organic material.
They also live almost everywhere filling the role
of decomposers; recycling nutrients back into
the food chain.

Kingdom Fungi
People used to think that mushrooms were
plantsbut they have clear differences.

Kingdom Fungi
Fungi are decomposers. They feed by
absorbing nutrients from dead or
decaying living things.
Examples:

Mushrooms
Molds
Yeast

Kingdom Protista
The kingdom Protista includes unique organisms
that for some reason or another do not fit into the
other kingdoms, but most of them are called Algae.
Most species are made of only one cell while some
others are made of many cells. All of their cells contain
a nucleus and cellular organelles. Some have cell
walls made of the carbohydrate cellulose; while others
do not have a cell wall at all. Some species can gain
energy by converting sunlight or chemicals to make
food while others are must gain energy by consuming
food. They live in areas that contain water or have a
lot of moisture and contain organisms that have
characteristics of fungi, plants and animals.

Kingdom Protista
These are organisms that can not be classified
as plants, animals or fungi.
They have the Greatest variety of organisms.

Kingdom Protista
Examples :
Algae
Paramecium
Amoeba
Some animal-like; Some plant-like; Some
fungus-like

Kingdom Eubacteria
The kingdom Eubacteria includes more modern types
of bacteria. Like Archaebacteria they are all made of
one cell. Also each cell does not contain a nucleus
and membrane bound organelles. They also have cell
walls but they do contain the carbohydrate
peptidoglycan. Some species can gain energy by
converting sunlight or chemicals to make food while
others must gain energy by consuming food. They live
almost everywhere; in all habitats and even within
organisms like ourselves. Unfortunately many
Eubacteria cause disease but many are harmless and
some are even helpful such as the Escherichia coli
which help us to digest our food. Eu- is pronounced:
You; and Eu- means New. The name refers to the
fact that this group of bacteria are modern, or evolved
more recently than the other group

Kingdom Eubacteria
Eu- is pronounced: You
Eu- means New
The name refers to the fact that this group
of bacteria are modern, or evolved more
recently than the other group.

Kingdom Eubacteria
Eubacteria can be helpful and harmful
For example:
E. Coli helps us digest our food
Anthrax is a KILLER

Kingdom Archbacteria
The kingdom Archeabacteria includes the
most ancient organisms on earth. These
organisms are all made of one cell. Each cell
does not contain a nucleus and membrane
bound organelles. They have very strong cell
walls which do not contain the carbohydrate
peptidoglycan. Some species can gain energy
by converting sunlight or chemicals to make
food while others are must gain energy by
consuming food. They live in the most extreme
environments such as volcanic hot springs and
black organic mud which does not contain
oxygen.

Kingdom Archaebacteria
Archae is pronounced Ahr-kee
Archae means Ancient
The name refers to the fact
that this group contains the
oldest organisms on earth.
Live in the most extreme
environments, such as
volcanic hot springs, and
black organic mud devoid of
oxygen.
