The purportedly moderate government of Hasan Rouhani during the last 2 years has tried to reset the relations with the West
and reach an agreement over Iranian nuclear program with the six main international powers.
At the same time Irans policy was not limited only with the nuclear dossier but very active steps over getting more influence
in the Middle East, Persian Gulf and the Caucasus.
South Caucasus as one of the main areas of Irans regional aspirations hasnt been viewed as a such during the global process over Iran nuclear negotiations. But in reality
Tehrans interests have never disappeared over the Caucasus and the last 2 years have brought a lot of new instruments of a
better and more effective involvement. The lecture examines how Irans policy in the South Caucasus represents new techniques in pursuit of an old strategy: to maintain and expand its influence among its neighbors.
