Online Learning Essay (Activity 16 #7)
Online courses are becoming so popular today that they are
almost expected in any formal education curriculum (Ferriman, 2014).
As the world advances we have to learn to adapt and learn to keep up
with everything. In an online class environment it is easy to fall
behind, but remember that success is attainable if you work hard and
stay organized. Did you know that many students struggle to succeed
in an online environment? Fortunately, there are resources and
methods available for students, which struggle to accomplish their
goals, so that they can do well in an online class. By way of example,
it is very important to recognize your strengths and your weaknesses.
This allows you to grow and allows you to improve in areas that may
not be your strong suit. Knowledge about your own personal skills,
learning styles, and intelligences will give you insight about yourself.
This knowledge can help you to enhance your studying and learning in
an online environment because taking advantage of each these skills,
allows you to determine where you need to apply yourself and where
you can be successful. Through the examination of five common

challenges faced in online classes, it will become evident that taking

advantage of my assessed styles will enhance and improve my online
learning. My personality, intelligences, and learning styles can be an
asset to doing well in an online environment.
Online learning can be difficult for a number of reasons. To begin
with, online classes have little to none face-to-face interaction. This
can be challenging for people who do not know how to connect with
others easily. Luckily, my giving personality gives me a set of
characteristics and abilities that I can utilize. For example, my giving
nature means that I like to connect with other people and that I can
use this trait to get in contact with my classmates or my professor if
needed. Being a giving person also means that I like to help others. I
can overcome the nonexistent face-to-face interaction by setting up a
meeting time with other peers to discuss, help, and teach each other.
Online learning environments require a lot of reading and
attention to detail. Conveniently, my verbal-linguistic intelligence
means that I like to summarize and organize: I am someone who likes
to read and I like to make detailed notes or reminders for myself, so
that I stay on top of deadlines and assignments. Utilizing my verballinguistic intelligence will allow me to succeed in reading and
understanding any associated online documents.

Online classes tend to rely on online discussions for the majority

of communication. Due to my active learning style this should be
easily overcome. My active learning style means that I tend to retain
and understand information best by discussing or applying it. For
instance, online class discussions will allow me to seek information
from others and to ask peers questions through replying of posts.
Online learning environments require continuous access to the
Internet and knowledge of how to use it. Having a space or a
computer to access your online class is one of the first problems that
people face. Providentially, I have study rooms at my school that I can
make weekly bookings for, so that I have a quiet and Internetaccessible space. My intuitive personality means that I often find
myself thinking of the future and my future, in an online class, involves
having that space. Also, having a giving personality allows me to think
of myself and help myself, which in turn means that I plan having
access to a computer. Knowing how to use a computer, a common
challenge faced by online students, allows me to showcase my logicalmathematical intelligence. Notably, I can easily come up with effective
and complex solutions to any Internet issues that may occur.
An online class requires self-discipline and motivation. Online
classes give you the control over your own learning experience and
allows for flexibility of study. However, there is a greater responsibility

put on the student to maintain information given and time to complete

tasks. Having an introvert personality will allow me to concentrate
more on the things required in an online class, rather than if I were an
extrovert. Also, having an introvert personality means that I want to
know what is going on in my online class and that I want to learn new
things. My own personality motivates me to do well in an online
learning environment. Additionally, my judging personality means that
I am a very orderly person in the way I live and structure my life. This
can help me enhance my online learning because I like to set goals and
stick to them; I am determined. This judging personality also means
that I tend to set my schoolwork as a priority: I am mindful of my time
and I like to succeed. Taking advantage of my assessed styles enables
me to succeed in an online class.
After considering the difficulties that people face in online
environments, it has became clear that utilizing my own strengths is
beneficial to my success in an online class. Similarly, anyone taking an
online class can have this success as well. The growth and assessment
of yourself will allow you to understand your strengths and
weaknesses, which ultimately can be used in an online environment.
Even more, it is important to remember that developing,
understanding, and applying your own skills can enhance your learning
in an online environment. You are the key to your own success.
