The AASD Family
Literacy Program
supports parents
and their children as
the parent works on
their own
educational goals and promotes the parent as
the first and most important teachers to their
children. The program targets both the parent
and the child, but may involve other adult
family members.

eligible to enroll in this exciting program.
The AASD Family Literacy Program consists of
four components: Adult Education, Childrens
Education, Parenting Education and
Interactive Literacy Activities.

GED Test and Preparation
The 2014 Series GED Test (which replaced
the 2002 Series GED Test on January 2,
2014) consists of four sub-tests: Reasoning
through Language Arts, Mathematical,
Reasoning, Social Studies, and Science.

The AASD Community Education Center was
established in 1969, and for over 45 years, the
Center has provided exceptional educational
opportunities to Blair and Cambria Counties.
The Center serves adult learners working on
their GED, job readiness skills, job retention
skills, and post-secondary education.
Our goal is to help adult learners improve their
skills to achieve their educational and career
goals.
Classes are offered throughout the year. The
classes vary in length from 4 - 10 weeks
depending on the course of study.
All classes and materials are provided at no
charge to the adult learner.
Funding for these programs comes from the
Pennsylvania Department of Education, Division
of Adult Education.
The Division of Adult Education also monitors
GED testing in Pennsylvania.

A learner can take the GED test if they are at


least 18 years old; or are 16 or 17 years old
and have the completed paperwork required by
Pennsylvania, and are not enrolled in school.
For the 2014 Series GED Test, the time limits
are:
Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA)
150 minutes
Social Studies 90 minutes
Science 90 minutes
Mathematical Reasoning 115 minutes
2014 Series GED Test Pennsylvania
requires a minimum passing score of 600 total
points on all four GED tests. Each individual
test score can be no lower than 150 points.

Employment and Career Readiness


Classes
Free adult education classes are offered at the
AASD Community Education Center for those
interested in the healthcare, welding and dental
fields. Classes also are offered for skills, career
exploration and math remediation.

Tutoring
Tutoring is available for students needing extra help
with their studies. Tutors are available to meet with
students at the Community Education Center and
the various libraries throughout Blair and part of
Cambria County. Call 814.946.8495 for more

Distance Learning
Pennsylvanias Distance Learning Project (DLP)
provides basic, workplace, and English instruction to
adults focused on attaining self-reliance, economic
stability, and family unity through instructional
activities in which students and instructors are
separated by geography, time, or both. Support is
provided to the students by the AASD Community
Education Center. Students work with their online
instructor toward their educational goals.

Preparation
The AASD Community Education Center offers
Basic, Intermediate and Advanced classes for
all test subject areas for those persons desiring
to accomplish the GED credential.
