ASSESSMENT, PLANNING AND INSTRUCTION


Essa demonstrated a sotind knowledge of the subject matter she taught and the Ontario Curriculum.
She researched the Mathematics curriculum before she delivered it to the students to ensure she could
respond to their questions. She stressed significant ideas and checked for understanding of new
concepts before moving on in her lesson. She ensured that the students completed the assigned work
and assessed student progress. Her lessons were very weU-planned and demonstrated an
understanding of the developmental stages and individual needs of the students. Essa employed a wide
variety of instructional strategies that complemented her lessons (Carousel, co-operative learning
strategies, think-pair-share, jig-saw, etc.).
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Essa's caring and cakn manner, along with her patience and respectful nature, helped her to create a
positive learning environment and a good rapport with students. She has developed a number of
effective classroom management strategies throughout her practicum. She has maintained effective
classroom routines and expectations of^tudent behaviour. When she has needed to use discipline, she
has been consistent, effective and fair. As she became familiar with the students, Essa was able to
anticipate behaviour and respond accordingly and innovatively. By using praise to encourage positive
behaviotors, and assigning roles to group members in co-operative learning activities, Essa demonstrated
growth and effectiveness in engaging, motivating, and managing students. She has developed a positive
and respectful rapport with the students.
UNDERSTANDING CURRICULUM AND THE LEARNER
Essa has a solid understanding and knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum. In her planning and deliver
of her lessons, Essa has demonstiated an understanding of how to adapt the curriculum to the needs o f
variety of learners. She has developed some activities that were tailored to the abilities of the students
within the required curriculum. She demonstrated a clear understanding of how to manage students
with differing needs and how to monitor the behaviour and working environment of the whole
classroom wmle giving her attention to an individual or whole group. She is fair and consistent in her
approach to the students while maintaining a professional distance.
DIVERSITY AND EQUITY
Essa has used a number of strategies to engage the students. She was sensitive to the wide range of
academic abilities present in our classroom. She planned her lessons to ensure the success of every
student, using a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate the different learning styles and abilities
of the students. Her lessons included clear visual demonstrations, bodily kinesthetic activities,
interpersonal collaboration and personal reflection.

PROFESSIONALISM

Essa was consistently well planned and prepared for her lessons. She took initiative when plannine, and
asked for advice botn before and after lessons. She engaged in personal reflection of her lessons and

often shared with me some modifications she would maSce for future lessons. Essa established a good
rapport with staff and students. She was always courteoxis, prompt and professional.
INVOLVEMENT IN S C H O O L / COMMUNITY L I F E

Essa consistently stayed in at lunch and after school to assist students who were experiencing difficulty
in Math or wanted a quiet place to work. She assisted in supervision and attended Staff Meetings.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Essa has been a pleasure to teach with. She is cooperative, flexible and easy to work with. She is
always wilHng to help out and be a strong team player. She is a motivated teacher who has shown
initiative to develop her professional responsibilities. She is always positive and friendly. Her calm
demeanor and reflective nature would rnake her an asset to any school.
