Coed Flag Football Rules

ROSTER:
There is no maximum number of players allowed on a teams roster provided all players have
signed the Game On Sports Roster/Waiver form. It is the responsibility of all team captains to
ensure players are in compliance with this policy. Teams have up until the third week of the
season to make changes to their roster. After the third week, rosters will be frozen. Roster
changes that require additional t-shirts will be subject to availability. All roster changes must
be communicated to and approved by Game On Sports. For an individual to be eligible for a
teams play-off roster he/she must have signed the waiver for said team by week 3 and must
also have participated in at least 3 total games with said team.
WAIVERS:
In order to participate in the league, each player must sign the team waiver. Captains need to
print, have all players sign, and turn in the first night of play. Players not present the first week
of play will still be required to sign a waiver with our staff before participating. A Game On
Sports staff member will keep your team waiver at the field, or a new one can be printed out.
Players who sign up as individuals, agree to the waiver electronically when they register.
PLAYER RESTRICTIONS:
A. All Game On Sports participants must be 18 years of age or older prior to their first
scheduled game.
B. Players that have participated in Division 1 Collegiate or Professional sports must be a
minimum of 2 years removed from participation to be eligible to play in a similar Game On
Sports sport.
C. Players may only be on one roster for any given sport on a given night, regardless of if
multiple divisions are offered.
D. Game On Sports reserves the right to request a photo ID from any player at any time for
any reason.

E. Roster checks will be performed by an Game On Sports Gameday Coordinator at the

request of the challenging team. Only individual players may be challenged. Entire teams
may not be challenged. The challenging team must provide legitimate reasons for submitting
a roster check request. Challenging teams must report their intention to initiate a roster check
to a Game On Sports Official as soon as possible to ensure the preservation of playing time.
Teams lose the ability to challenge a players eligibility at halftime.
SPORTSMANSHIP:
We are all adults, and Game On Sports expects all participants to act like it. Unsportsmanlike
behavior may result in that player being ejected from the game. An ejection may result in
further suspension from participation in current and / or future Game On Sports Events. An
ejected player(s) is required to leave the premises immediately refusal to leave the premises
may result in a team forfeit and / or increased length of suspension.
OVERLY COMPETITIVE PLAYERS:
All Game On Sports events are intended to be recreational. Any player who is deemed to be
excessively competitive and/or overly aggressive may be removed from competition at the
discretion of a Game On Sports staff member.

All players must wear the same color shirt. If you do not have jerseys we will provide t-shirts
in your preferred color with your preferred number for an additional cost. Any player in a
different color and not having a number attached to their jersey will not be eligible to compete
for that week. This ruling can be overturned if all members of opposing team agree to allow
said member to play.
JEWELRY:
Players must remove all watches, hats, protruding rings / earrings, & chains / necklaces prior
to game play. Smooth wedding bands, earring studs, and prescription glasses are acceptable.
GAME EQUIPMENT:
Every team must bring their own high school, collegiate or NFL sized football . Game on sports
will provide all field equipment and flags. While a male is playing qb, a traditonal size football

must always be in use. If a team is on a closed play, or a team decides to have a Girl play QB,
a smaller size football will be permitted, game on sports will provide a smaller ball if
neccessary.
FORFEITS:
a. For game to begin as scheduled each team must have a total of at least 5 players from your
own team.
b. During the regular season pick-ups may be made from other teams within your league. All
players picked up for an individual week must have signed the waiver for the season prior to
participation. No pick-ups will be allowed during play-offs. If you are forced to pick-up more
than 2 players not on your team game will automatically be counted as a loss but game will
still be played.
GAME RESCHEDULING POLICY:

Game On Sports will make every attempt to reschedule all games. In the event of multiple
cancellations, Game on sports reserves the option to shorten the regular season and/or the

FOOTBALL GAME RULES

A. GAME CLOCK:
All game times will be FORFEIT time, no exceptions. Game on Sports will add 5 extra minutes
to the start time if a planned or traffic event has occurred. The referee will flip a coin. The
winning team will have the first choice of which half they want the ball OR direction. The losing

team can then choose from whatever option is left over. Teams flip-flop directions and
possession after half time.
1. Time: Play will be divided into two 25-minute halves, with one two minute half-time. There
will be a running clock maintained by the referee except for the last two minutes of the second
half unless one team is ahead by 19 points or more, in which case time will continue to run
with no stoppages aside from a trailing-teams timeout. If a team is down by 19 pts but scores
after the two minute mark in the second half, the clock then stops. No timeouts can be called
by a leading team if they are ahead by 19 or more. Time will only be stopped during the first
42 minutes for called timeouts and serious injuries. If an injury occurs, that player must leave
the game for one scrimmage down.
2. Timeouts: Each team is allowed two (one-minute) time outs per game and they can be used
at any time (ie, both in the first half, one in each, two in the second half, etc). Approximately
two minutes before each half ends the referee will inform each team of playing time
remaining in that half. If a touchdown has occurred after time has expired, the extra point
conversion will be allowed. If an accepted penalty by the defense has occurred, the offensive
team may choose to extend the period by one down.
3. Final Two Minutes of the Second Half: The clock is stopped for an incomplete pass, if a
player goes out of bounds before having their flag pulled, if either team scores (clock starts
when the opposing team snaps the ball, after the PAT attempt), for a change of possession, if a
penalty must be marked off (clock will resume as soon as the marker is placed and referee
indicates the ball is in play), or if a team calls time out. The clock does not stop on first downs
or for a completed pass in bounds.
4a. Ready for Play: After the immediate completion of a play, the referee will place the marker
at the line of scrimmage. The offense has 25 seconds to put the ball in play after it is declared
ready by the head judge (ie, when marker is placed). No player shall put the ball in play until
declared ready-for-play.
4b. On a change of possession, officials will allow a 15 second period for both teams to make
line-up changes before the ball will be marked and ready for play.

4c. A ball that is spiked to stop the clock on a forced gender play will lead to the next play still
in forced gender mode, regardless of who the QB is during the spike.
4d. There will be a rush count consisting of 3, 2, 1. The defending teams pass rusher may not
cross the line of scrimmage on a passing play until the line judge has said 1.
4e. If at any time a player on the offensive team lines up in the backfield or moves backwards
after the snap occurs the rush count is nullified and the defending teams pass rusher may
rush immediately.
5. Overtime (Playoffs Only): In the Playoffs, Coin flip is done by the referee with the winning
team deciding on first or second possession. Teams will attempt to score in the same end
zone. Each team will then have four downs to score from 20. If a team scores, they will have
the opportunity to go for one or two on the PAT. A female must be used once within the first
three plays. Interceptions will result in a turnover and may not be returned for any points. If a
tie occurs after the first round, then teams will repeat using the same format. However, the
team that defended first is now on offense first. In overtime situations, to assisst with the pace
of the game, both teams must go for 2 after each touchdown. The game will be decided when
one team scores more points in the round. No first downs will be awarded except in the case
of a penalty.
B. PLAYERS ON THE FIELD:
The maximum numbers of players on the field is 7 (standard: 5 men, 2 women); minimum
number of players is 6 (minimum of 1 female). If there is only 1 female, then 5 men may play.
However, there cannot be more than 5 men on the field under any circumstance. There are no
limits to the number of females allowed on the field at one time.
C. LINE OF SCRIMMAGE:
Ball starts on the 20 yard line. All offensive players (except motion player) must be set for one
full second before ball is snapped. The man in motion must be continuing in a parallel motion
or backward motion to the line of scrimmage at the time of the snap. If a player is in motion
when the ball is snapped an automatic rush will be awarded to the defense. All remaining
players must be on the line or behind their backfield line with a minimum number of 5 players
on the line of scrimmage, 5 players must be set in order for a legal play to be snapped. After a

play, the line of scrimmage is determined by the location of the ball when the flags are pulled.
If flags fall off a player before the flags are pulled, it becomes one-hand touch. For example, if
a player is holding the ball out in front of them and the ball crosses the end zone, but the
players flags and waist have not yet crossed when pulled, it is still a touchdown. If a player is
in motion at the time of snap it becomes an automatic rush situation for the defense.
1. Good line will be called on each play if the referee does not signal that there is a good line
the defending team may rush immediately, the automatic rush is based off the referee
verbalizing it, if the referee does not say RUSH, you must wait for the 3,2,1 count.
D. DOWNS:
First downs are obtained by crossing your own 20 yard line, midfield, and your opponents 20
yard line. If a team fails to earn a first down in four plays by crossing the next 20 yard
increment, possession will go to the opposing team. The offensive team may elect to punt on
fourth down.
E. PUNTS:
The offensive team must declare punts on fourth down to the referee with enough advance
warning for the defense to put players back in receiving formation. On the announcement of
a 4th down play, the referee will call out a 10 second decision period on whether the offense
will elect to punt or go for it, after a decision has been made the 25 second play clock will
begin. If the offense does not make a decision within 10 seconds, the referee will
automatically assume that the offense will be going for it. Once the offensive team declares
with the official whether to punt, but then changes their decision, they must use a timeout
before being allowed to proceed.
No fake punts are allowed and all punts must be kicked or thrown. The kicking team must stay
on the line of scrimmage until the ball is punted. The receiving team may fair catch the ball or
advance it. If the ball hits the ground after touching any part of the receivers body, it becomes
a dead ball. The ball cannot be played off a bounce. If the ball travels into the end zone
without being touched, a touch back is called and ball placed at the 10 yard line. No blocking is
allowed on punts.
F. BLOCKING:

No blocking is allowed in Game on Sports football. This includes downfield blocking during
an offensive play and returned punt. No contact is allowed at the line or downfield by any
defensive player guarding a receiver (hand checking or bump and run). All players must try to
avoid contact with any player on the football field. We understand that contact happens in any
football game but excessive and unnecessary contact will be subject to penalty. Offensive
players may run behind the player with the ball to receive a lateral, but may not run in front or
parallel to (illegal block/screen), if while running behind the ball carrier to receive a lateral,
impeding the defensive players pursuit of the ball carrier will still result in a penalty.
G. GENDER RELATED PLAY:
1. Open/Gender Play:
Teams must use a female as an operative player within three consecutive downs. An open play
will be called by the referee if a gender play is not required on the current play. For an open
play, the ball may be advanced by either a male or female player (ex. 2nd down / goal / open).
If a female was not used within three downs, then the forced gender rule is put into effect.
This means that a female must be an operative player used in the next play.
2. Forced Gender Play:
A female can be used on any play, however when the offense has not used a female as an
operative player within the last three plays, the next play must be a forced gender play. The
operative player here is a female who is seen as the intended receiver in the eyes of the
official, or acts as the quarterback. Once a female is used in any play then the gender count is
reset.
Examples / Scenarios:

Satisfies a Forced Gender Play:

-MALE QB: A forward pass thrown across the line of scrimmage to a female (completion or no
completion)A forward pass thrown across the line of scrimmage intended for a female (in
the eyes of the referee) that is deflected by a female, and is caught by a male
-FEMALE QB: A female takes the snap and runs across the line of scrimmagea female QB
throws a forward pass across the line of scrimmage to an offensive player

Does NOT Satisfy a Forced Gender Play:

MALE QB: QB hands the ball off to a female player only to hand it back to a male behind the
line of scrimmageA female snaps the ball into playA female receives a hand-offA male QB
intentionally throws the ball into the ground at the feet of a woman without a reasonable
expectation of a completionSpiking the ball on a forced gender play to stop the clock
(equivalent to a sack resulting in loss of down and repeat of forced gender play). A pass
INTENDED for a male, deflected, and caught, or touched last by a female.
FEMALE QB: A female QB grounds the ball to stop the clock (this is an illegal gender offense
penalty)A female QB throws a pass that does not cross the line of scrimmage while in the air
(even if the receiver catches the ball behind the line and proceeds to move across the line of
scrimmage)a female QB takes the snap but hands it off to a male player.

H. PASSING:
1. Complete/Incomplete Pass:
A forward pass is completed when caught by any player of the passing team who has at least
one foot in-bounds. If opposing teams catch the pass in-bounds simultaneously, the ball
belongs to the offensive team at the spot of the catch. If a player steps out-of-bounds and
comes back in-bounds to be the first person to touch the ball, it will be ruled an incomplete
pass regardless of whether possession is established. However, if a player steps out of bounds,
they will be eligible to catch a deflected ball.
2. QB Run from Scrimmage. The QB may run the ball at any time regardless of the rush count.
If the play is a forced gender play, however, a male QB may not run for positive yards in any
scenario (illegal gender offense).
3. Turnovers: A change of possession can only occur due to downs, a punt, or an interception
on a forward pass. A fumble is not a turnover (the ball is dead at the spot of the fumble). A
lateral is not a forward pass and can be advanced if intercepted.
I. SCORING:

1. Touchdowns are six points.

2. Extra points are two points for a 10-yard conversion and one point for a three yard
conversion. An intercepted extra point try MAY be returned for 2 points (regardless of whether
the offense was attempting a one-point or two-point conversion). Also, if a penalty is assessed
on an extra point attempt, neither the offense or defense can change the value of their extra
point attempt.
3. Female to Female Scoring Play. Teams will still then have the option for a one or two point
conversion. A pass or run completing a touchdown by a female from the 3 yard line will result
in 2 points and 3 points from the 10 yard line.
4. Safeties are two points. The scoring team will now go on offense with the ball placed at their
own 20 yard line.
PLAYER FLAG POSITIONING RULE
1.

A player must have a flag at each hip and shirt tucked inside the flag belt. If a players, flags
are both on one side, if a player loses a flag prior to or during the play, or if a players shirt is
deemed to be restricting flag pulling, the ball carrier will automatically be downed on a 2 hand
touch.
FOOTBALL PENALTIES LOSS OF FIVE YARDS PENALTIES:
1. DEFENSE:
a. Defensive off-sides (from the line)A player is off sides when any part of his body or his
person is beyond the line of scrimmage before the snap of the ball or before the three second
count is over. The offensive team has the option to accept or decline the five-yard penalty,
from the spot of the previous play and will result in re-playing the down.
Illegal Participation - if the defense starts with 8 or more players on the field, the play will
continue as a free play and the offense will have the ability to accept or decline the penalty
based on the result. I.e. if the offense snaps, and the play results in a positive play, they can
take the positive yards or replay the previous down 5 yards from the previous spot. THE
REFEREE WILL NOT ALERT TEAMS OF ILLEGAL PARTICIPATION BEFORE THE SNAP, IT WILL BE UP
TO THE TEAM TO NOTICE THE INFRACTION.

2. OFFENSE:
a. Delay of game (from the line/dead ball)The offensive team must put the ball into play 25
seconds after referee has placed the cone.
b. Illegal participation (from the line) Each team may not have more than 7 players on the
field at one time or more than 5 men on the field. Penalty will be assessed after discovery, and
will result in loss of down. After the conclusion of the offensive play it will be up to the
defensive captain to accept or decline the penalty. THE REFEREE WILL NOT ALERT TEAMS OF
ILLEGAL PARTICIPATION BEFORE THE SNAP, IT WILL BE UP TO THE TEAM TO NOTICE THE
INFRACTION.
c. Illegal cadence (from the line/dead ball). If the snap is not called verbally, the ball must still
be snapped to the offensive player who is lined up behind the line of scrimmage (i.e. a player
lined up as QB, or a player lined up in the backfield or in motion. On a forced gender play, the
offense must clearly designate which gender will be receiving the snap (QB must raise their
hand). The ball must be snapped to a player behind the line of scrimmage.
d. Offensive off-sides (from the line/dead ball) When any part of the offensive players body
or his person is beyond the scrimmage line before the ball is snapped.
e. Offense not stationary for one full second (from the line/dead ball)After a shift or huddle
all offensive players must assume a set position and come to an absolute stop (except one
man in motion).
f. Offensive player illegally in motion at snap (from the line/dead ball) No player is permitted
to be moving forward toward his opponents goal line until the snap.
g. Illegal forward pass (from the spot of the pass, loss of down) The offensive team may make
one forward pass from behind the line during each play from scrimmage provided the ball
does not cross the line and return behind line before the pass. The defense can either accept
or decline the penalty.
h. QB illegal forward pass (from the line/loss of down) If the QB crosses the line of
scrimmage and then throws a forward pass, the defense can either decline the penalty or it
will be assessed from the line of scrimmage and loss of down (i.e. if it was first down during
the penalty, now it is second down).
i. Illegal Diving (loss of down/from the spot of the foul) No player may leave his or her feet in
order to gain positive yards. Penalty is enforced from the spot of the foul. THE DOWN WILL
BE DETERMINED BY THE TOTAL YARDS OF THE PLAY AFTER THE PENALTY. (I.E. - THE RESULT OF
THE PLAY PLUS THE PENALTY MUST BE ENOUGH YARDS FOR A FIRST DOWN TO ADVANCE THE

BALL, IT WILL BE A SPOT FOUL AND THE NEXT DOWN WILL BE ENFORCED, FROM THE FINAL
SPOT)

LOSS OF TEN YARDS PENALTIES: DOUBLE PENALTIES WILL RESULT IN A REPLAY OF THE
DOWN FROM THE PREVIOUS SPOT
1. ANY PLAYER:
a. Flag guarding intentionally or unintentionally obstructing the flag with your arm or the ball
while the defender is in a position to pull it.
b. Stiff-arm, running into opponent (spot of foul) The ball carrier may not use a stiff-arm
(extended arm) to ward off any opponent attempting to touch, may not charge into a
defensive player.
c. Blocking (from the spot) No player may use his hands to block opponent. Offensive players
may not run down field in front of or parallel to the ball carrier, whether you intended to block
or not. They may run behind to receive a lateral.
d. Intentional foul/penalty (from the line/gender will be reset/automatic first down) If a
player intentionally commits a penalty or foul of any kind in order to gain an advantage for his
team, may be ejected.
e. Excessive contact/ Dropping the shoulder as a ball carrier - It is both the offensive and
defensive players duty to avoid contact, creating contact or dropping the shoulder as a ball
carrier will result in a penalty. If contact occurs between both players, it will be up to the
referrees judgement to determine if contact is excessive or intentional. (if both players are
equally responsible, play will be blown dead and the next play will resume from the spot, if
excessive either way players will be warned).
THE DOWN WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE TOTAL YARDS OF THE PLAY AFTER THE PENALTY. (I.E.
- THE RESULT OF THE PLAY PLUS THE PENALTY MUST BE ENOUGH YARDS FOR A FIRST DOWN
TO ADVANCE THE BALL, IT WILL BE A SPOT FOUL AND THE NEXT DOWN WILL BE ENFORCED,
FROM THE FINAL SPOT)
2. DEFENSE: ALL DEFENSIVE 10 YARD PENALTIES WILL RESULT IN A FIRST DOWN
a. Illegal contact/holding (from the line) Defender may not use their hands or arms to hang
onto or encircle a receiver. The defender cannot extend their arms to cut off or hook a
receiver causing contact that impedes and restricts the receiver as the play develops, nor may

he maintain contact with the receiver. This includes holding on to an opponents uniform or
apparel while attempting to pull the flag. Illegal stripping of a receiver who has established
possession also falls under illegal contact. If both players are going for the ball in the air, the
defender may attempt to knock the ball out of the offensive players hand to prevent a
completion, but if a swipe is made after the player possesses the ball than the illegal contact
call will be made. Enforcement will be up to the referees discrtetion.
b. Pass interference Defense - 10 yard penalty or spot of the foul if less then 10 yard
attempted. Prohibited conduct shall be when a player physically restricts or impedes the
opponent in a manner that is visually evident and materially affects the opponents
opportunity to gain position or retain his position to catch the ball. If a player has gained
position, he shall not be considered to have impeded or restricted his opponent in a
prohibited manner if all of his actions are a bona fide effort to go to and catch the ball.
3. OFFENSE: ALL 10 YARD OFFENSIVE PENALTIES CAN BE EITHER ACCEPTED OR DECLINED
BY THE DEFENSE, IF ACCEPTED IT WILL RESULT IN A DEAD BALL PENALTY FROM THE
PREVIOUS SPOT AND A REPLAY OF DOWNS
a. Offensive Picking (from the line/ if this occurs in a forced gender situation, then gender will
be replayed) The offensive team may not initiate a pick/block while in motion. Action by a
player who with/without contact delays or prevents an opponent from reaching a desired
position. REPLAY DOWN
b. Offensive Pass Interference (from the line) REPLAY DOWN
c. Illegal Gender Offense (from the line) defense has two options: 1) Take the 10-yard penalty
and repeat the down (next play will still be gender) OR 2) the defense may decline the penalty.
REPLAY DOWN
d. Intentional Grounding on Forced Gender Play (from the line) if the male QB on a forced
gender play is deemed to have thrown a purposefully uncatchable ball at the feet of a female
player in order to attempt to satisfy a gender play, the offense will be penalized (illegal gender
offense).

LOSS OF 15 YARD PENALTIES

a. Tying flags (or modifying / rendering flags to make it more difficult for the defense to pull). If
a player is discovered to have tied their flags, the 15-yard penalty will be assessed from the

previous line of scrimmage (ie, if a TD was scored, the penalty will be assessed from the
original line of scrimmage).
b. Unsportsmanlike conduct (from the line/ If penalty is on the defense, automatic first down/
If penalty is on the offense, 15 yds. from the line/ If penalty is after a TD, yardage added to
extra point conversion) Abusive/insulting language or gesture to another player or referee, as
well as taunting opponents or similar theatrics before or after the touchdown. The player may
be disqualified for above actions if judged by the referee to be flagrant and will be suspended
for next weeks game. If that player(s) is caught playing next week, the team will forfeit that
game. In a severe case of unsportsmanlike conduct, the player will be suspended from playing
any Game on sports event for a session or more. Disqualified players names must be given to
Game on sports staff or referee. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated in Game on
sports.
c. A player will be warned on a case-by-case basis by the referees on an excessive contact
penalty. If a player is warned numerous times it is up to the referees discretion to determine
if an unsportsmanlike penalty is needed to be enforced or if a player needs to be removed
from the game.
