Todays Role Models
There are many inspirational role models that expressed their talents or even created a
lasting impact on someone. If I were to choose five individuals who created somewhat of an
impact on my life they would be Mahatma Gandhi, Carl Sagan, Aaron Rodgers, Jamie Hyneman,
and last but not least Sigmund Freud.
Each of these Individuals is different in their own ways but the similarity is that all of
them impacted another persons life in a positive manner. Mahatma Gandhi grew up in an
agrarian environment not far from where Im from. He was one of the few who identified
himself at an early age; his self-identification led to his non-violence movements and ultimately
Indias Independence. What inspired me is the fact that he was able to map out his life at an early
age; to me thats a difficult task to achieve especially in environments where resources were
limited. His self- identification makes me assume that Gandhi was an intelligent human being
throughout his lifetime. Gandhi made a difference in almost the entire population of India at the
time and even today. Moving on to how Carl Sagan is an inspirational human being. Carl Sagan
inspires individuals of all ages to understand the need for knowing the nature of science. He
wrote an interesting article that immediately opened my mind to new ways of thinking. Sagan
explains a crisis that is occurring here in the United States about how a majority of individuals
are scientifically illiterate. What was most uplifting is how much our world revolves around
science; yet in our country political leaders are creating laws without understanding the nature of

this world. Sagan reminds me every day to sometimes approach a situation with proper
reasoning.
Furthermore, Aaron Rodgers, quarterback of the Green Bay Packers, does inspiring work
off the fields. Unlike most athletes who chase for the best contract they can get, Aaron Rodgers
puts a smile on kids who are dealing with cancer and other illnesses. His ulterior motives prove
to society that greed isnt anything to gloat around about nonstop. This reminds me to strive for
something that is of passion. Now the next Individual Jamie Hyneman is a person who searches
for solutions to scientific myths. In his show Mythbusters, scientific research is taken to the next
level with large-scale experiments and engineering. This show relates to my hobbies and
interests in science; some experiments serve to educate the public about certain topics. The last
person who inspires me is Sigmund Freud. The only thing about Freud that appeals to me is that
his theories were scrutinized negatively during his time, but today his theories are of major
impact on how psychology is taught. Freud was someone who was looked upon as being
inaccurate at the time transformed into an individual who is regarded as being an influential
psychologist.
I choose these people because they had a lasting impact on other individuals. Its not like
I want to mimic their intentions and be like them. They all have values and characteristics that
are needed more in a stratified society like ours. All of these individuals promote good in society
in different forms.
