Conversing About Bees
The idea was to hold a conversation strictly on our semester long project topic and that is
exactly what happened. Over the long weekend I was at home back in Raleigh and was able to
converse about the decline of bees with my very own older sister. It was weird at first because its
not something we normally talk about. The conversation wasnt very long it lasted about twenty
minutes or so and ended relatively smoothly. I talked in great detail the situation about colony
collapse disorder what it is, why its occurring and what is being done. I dont think it was very
difficult for my sister to follow along, I think she understood every word that came out of my
mouth. At the end of the conversation my sister did have some questions that needed to be
answered and I did the best of my ability to answer them. She asked some opinion questions and
also questions regarding some of the research that was being done. I answered her questions
based on the research I was able to find and I think she felt satisfied with my answers, which
shows that my research was thorough.
This activity gives great practice before the final presentation begins; it gives us an idea
of how well our presentation explains the concepts. Ultimately our goal is to inform our audience
about the declining bee population in all perspectives. Conversing about the topic with another
person allows us to see what the audience is taking from the presentation and allows us to polish
our presentation in a manner that will engage and inform the audience. We dont want to lose the
interest of the audience in any way and so this activity is great practice for the oral presentations

that begin later. My sister did have a few questions but nothing major that affected our
PowerPoint greatly. Well make some minor adjustments and polish up our presentation in a way
that will awe the audience.
