PROPOSAL OF GHF 105

Abstract
This course will make a vital contribution to Jefferson County Technical College. The
purpose of my proposal is to introduce a course on Guitar Hall of Fame. The course
covers guitar players that have taken the world by storm and have made a name for them
self. Allowing the students to understand and witness acts of the great that have ever
walked the earth. In our modern time the normal person would be able to name a few
greats but after this class you will be able to name off hundreds of guitar players. The
genres we cover does not matter but what does matter is those who have made an impact
on the world.

PROPOSAL OF GHF 105

Introduction
This course is titled GHF 105, which stands for Guitar Hall of Fame. This class is
about bands or solo artists that shook the world wither guitars. This couarse captures the
best of the best in one class. Allowing the students to understand and witnesses act of the
greats that have ever walked the earth. In history, there are only a few that a normal
person may be able to name, but after this class not only will be able to name hundreds
but also know the history of each person. We focus on players that created their music on
the classical guitar. The genres that we cover range from reggae to rock and roll. At the
beginning of the semester students may even request an artist that they would like to
learn more about.
This course goes with the Department of Music and if many students are after a
music degree then this class will definitely benefit you. This course does not require a
prerequisite or a corequisites. This course is required for graduation if the programs are,
composition, history, theory, jazz studies, music production, and music technology. Also
there will be a certificate handed out to every student who passes the class. The students
will be earned 1.5 credit an hour for the first semester so the total about of credits earned
at the end of the course is 3. The class is on a letter grade system and it is repeatable if
students were to fail the course. This class is offered online and in person, so if students
dont have the time to come to the campus there is an online option to fit their time.
The class will meet twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays. GHF is an
elective but is a requited course in music technology, jazz studies, and history. This
course will help you achieve proficiency in your later music courses, since it covers
music of all genres and also the fundamental of music itself.

Course Goals and Outcomes

From this course students will have a chance to understand the different and
amazing styles of music. Allowing the students to listen to music that they may have
never have the chance to listen too. Covering the fundamental of how the guitar works is
also a plus since most music courses only teach the students the history of the music
itself. Below are the goals that I want the students to achieve at the end of the coarse:
The goals of this course are:
Introduce students to some well-known artists.
To develop a sense of knowledge of each genres.
Allowing students to under the fundamentals of how the guitar works.
To cover artists who have made a name for themselves and how.
To understand the diversity among music

At the end of this course, students should have the weapons needed to excel in their
future music related classes. The learning outcomes that the students will have are listed
below.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
(1) Understand the fundamentals of guitar
(2) Have learned more on artists
(3) Understood the diversity of genres
(4) Be able to perform songs

Allowing students to get a better understanding of the music that surrounds them
every day will give them a bigger picture of the world. Music has been with us for
thousands of years and music is just another way of talking. So by giving students these
skills of understanding the diversity of the music it is allowing the students to have a
better perception of the musical world. Giving the students diversity among music and
artist will give skills of students the understanding of how musicians create their songs.
In this class we hand the students a guitar and teach them the main parts of the body and
how the sounds work on it. When we cover artist we want to cover artists that the
students will think that will benefit them and other artists that have any affiliation with
them. Giving students information and skills on their studies is what this class want to
give the students.

Justification
The type of students that are expect to take this course are students that have a
music major in mind or students that would like to understand more on music. Some of
the majors that are expected to be seen in the class are composition, history, theory, jazz
studies, music production, and music technology. Guitar Hall of Fame will greatly help a
jazz study major, since we are to cover many jazz artists and especially the history of

PROPOSAL OF GHF 105

jazz. This course is a very open minded course, we want to answer any questions that the
students might ask so at the beginning of the semester we want the students to write any
questions that they may have on any specific artist and hand them to the instructor. Over
the semester the instructor will not only answer the questions but also go into depth of the
artist and about the artists backgrounds. If a student is going after a music production
major, this class will teach them the skills to produce. There is a rock and roll history
class but GHF allows students to learn information from all sorts of genres.

Implementation
In this class we will cover chapters in the book and after each chapter we will take
a short quiz over what we have learned. At the end of ten chapters there will be a test over
it but the test and quiz will be open book. There will also be a couple of videos that we
will watch and there will be a paper over them and how you perceived it. For the final the
class will be taken on a trip to a concert and once we get back, the final will be on your
perception on the concert. The class allows the students to choose who they would like to
learn on.
Planning Specifications
This course allows the students to learn who they want to learn, which will most
likely encourage them to enroll since most courses force the students to learn subjects
that will not help them in the long run. Also required books for this course are Guitar:
Music, History, Players and Genre of Popular Music these books cover artists and styles
of music. Each student is handed a guitar and amp so they may learn songs from their
favorite artist and also learn the fundamental of the guitar. A normal class size for Guitar
Hall of Fame is 25 students, giving that it is a small class we want the instructor to also
get to know the students and make sure that they get the best out of the course. Giving the
students the opportunity to learn what they want is what makes this course different from
other music related courses.
Content Specifications
At the beginning of course students have the opportunity to choose artists or
genres to learn on. Since the students requests are so vast the course books will also have
to be vast. After completing a chapter from each book, the class will take a quiz over the
chapters and the quizzes will be open book. Once completing ten chapters there will be
test over those chapters and that test will also be open notebook. The papers that are
going to be over videos that we watch in class, the paper is going to be on you
perspective on the video. Once the students have decided who they would like to learn,
we will go from the oldest to the new types of music/artists. Near the end of the
semester, as part of the final for the course students will be taking a field trip. The field
trip will be taken to a concert and once we get back from the trip, they will be assigned a
paper to be done for a final. The paper will test the students on how they are able to
understand and depict the music. The next part of the final will be performing in front of
the class. Not only does this course give you an understanding of how the guitar is made

PROPOSAL OF GHF 105

but also teach them songs from their favorite artists. The course also gives the students
the opportunity to show off what they have learned over the course.
Since this course is a very open minded course, we take what the students says to
the next level. If a student wants to have a better understanding of a specifying artist then
working that in is not a problem. Giving the student an opportunity to choose what they
learn is the best part of this class.
Budget
Below is a list of the cost for this class, the reason for having extra guitars is an
insurance if there we any issues with the equipment.

Communication and Coordination

Here you would place a paragraph or paragraphs that explain how you will
communicate and coordinate with the department, with employers, or with government
officials or community leaders who may have a stake in your course. Do you expect your
course to supplement other courses? Will you need to work with other instructors or with
the department to coordinate any needs within your course? Do you expect other
instructors to accommodate or reinforce your course in any way? Will employers make
use of knowledge that students in your course will have gained? Will others outside of
the college be able to make use of the benefits of your course? Adopt the same
paragraphing format as discussed in previous sections.

Appendix: Title of Item

An appendix is where information that is not essential for the paper is placed.
Appendix often thought of something unnecessary and by placing the unnecessary
information here you can focus more on more important information. The imformation
that is placed here is what could cluster your paper and maybe distract. By adding an
Appendix page you make can state the less important information but not letting it cluster
the rest of your paper.
The majority of assignments that are assigned are based on a baInclude at least
one appendix of 1-2 pages in your proposal. If you include more than one, title them
Appendix A, Appendix B, and so forth, in order to differentiate them from each
other. Explain what the appendix is in a brief paragraph before you present the actual
item. Examples of items you might include in an appendix are an excerpt from a
proposed syllabus (e.g. a course calendar or explanation of grading), a writing assignment
sheet, a test study sheet, sample test questions, an itinerary, a lesson plan, or any similar
course document. Notice that appendices come after a Reference list.
