Its my Management Philosophy,

Management in PRT.
Its my Management Philosophy,
Combining class material with a rap about me.

Semester began with Competencies,

Our reading Edgington gave us these 4 keys.
Plan, Organize, Control, Influence too,
Dr. Brownlee then asked whats most important to you.

Plan
Organize
Control
Influence

Edgington (pg. 14-15, 107, 113)

Competencies Assessment
Class Discussion 8/28, 9/2

So I thought, I pondered, reflected on my past,

Interviewed a manager, this question I did ask.
And suddenly it came clear to me,
That TRUST is my most valued competency.

Supportive

Dr. Brownlees Stories

Trust with co-workers, above and below,

Building strong relations with the people I know.
So now my Katz Model has become a WHEEL,
The rim an all-encompassing human skill.

Technical skills as spokes of support,

To a conceptual hub on a pimped Ford Escort.
Ill be cruising through the workforce spreading this joy,
From every CEO down to busboy.

everything)
Spokes = Technical Skills (more
technical skills come with time
and experience that give
strength and better grasp to

Hub = Conceptual Skills (at the
center and highest level of
management, Needs many
spokes of technical skills +
human skills throughout)

Class Discussion 9/16

So which leadership style might I possess?

Will any single one bring most success?
Or is it a combination of each theory,
I got you an answer, dont bother asking Siri.

Leadership Theories
Edgington (pg. 113-116)
Class Discussion 9/4

Exchange, Collaborative, and Servant Leaders,

Essentially are satisfied employee breeders.
As we saw in the video from Shawn Achor,
Success and productivity need happiness before.
Exchange = Leaders/managers need groups and groups need
leaders/managers for a successful exchange that leads to
beneficial outcomes
Collaborative = Collaboration leads to more positive results than other
processes
Servant = Promoting caring environments and positive community
Edgington (pg. 114-116)
Class Discussion 9/4, 10/9
Shawn Achor Motivation Video

Diverse situations may influence,

How a leader leads in an instance.
Be flexible, adapt, and easy going,
Dont make employees feel like their tiptoeing.

Situational Leadership
Edgington (pg 115)
Class Discussions 9/16, 9/18

So the style by which I lead,

Is based upon an individuals need.
Nurturing those relationships,
Working together like Ziploc zips.

But wait, pause, take a step back,

What to do if motivations lack?
Extrinsic rewards only go so far,
Which type of motivators will raise the bar?

Motivation
Daniel Pink Video
Arnold (pg. 111)
Hurd (pg. 270)
Class Discussions 10/9, 10/21

Mastery, Purpose, and Autonomy,

Intrinsic rewards to be the best you can be.
As a leader, show TRUST and believe,
Create an environment for others to achieve.

Motivation

Arnold (pg. 111)
Hurd (pg. 270)
Class Discussions 10/9, 10/21

Be fair, show you care, make them want be there,

Your role is to lead, not to scare.
Be good to your employees as a manager,
Got to pet the kitty if you want to make it purr.

Motivation
Arnold (pg. 114)
Hurd (pg. 270)

So now you ask, who am I?

This beat boppin, psychedelic fugi.
What personal mission, vision, and values,
Staining my soul like internal tattoos.

To start things off, Im a Utah boy.

I like stormy weather and the movie Troy.
I ski, I hike, climb, bike and run,
Wasatch, Powell, Uintas, and Zion.

The mountains are my church, and their summits the steeple.

I find myself surrounded with likeminded people.
Who love the outdoors as much as I,
To protect, preserve, defend, and purify.

So when I'm not gone off playing,

Those messages Ill be relaying.
Leading in an outdoor classroom,
Spreading tons of joy, but never gloom.

I wanna coach and teach, life lessons Ill preach.

Up in the mountains or on a sandy beach.
Providing people with the tools to use,
To help them manage their day to day issues.

So come the day when I manage my own way,

Positive things I hope my employees say.
Ill be applying these skills and knowledge,
From my management class in college.
